The uniforms were purchased with part of the proceeds from the annual Fish Fry. Even though they had only two victories, the girls showed a marked improvement from the years past. Their shooting was improved, and the defense really did well, also. Dottie Hill was awarded All-Conference recognition on the first team, and Debbie Nichols was given Honorable Mention. 15

Starting from top left and going clockwise: Mike Finck scrambles down court with Elwood players in pursuit and Irish player Terry Horner behind to assist; Irish fans and Pep Club jump up with pride in background as Doug Coltz hits for a lay-up; the ball is up for grabs, and Kirby Oliver aims to take advantage of it; Terry Horner's acrobatics seem out of place as the players dash to the other side of the court. The Irish basketball season of 1979-80 wasn't what some had expected with a surprising 14 wins and 5 losses. And not only was this shown in the records of wins and losses, but also with trophies. In the Galaxy Tournament, the Irish took a well-deserved first place in the Southern Division and a second place for overall at Conestoga. With such an achievement it was no wonder that Irish players Mike Olberding and Doug Goltz were chosen for all-conference. Of course, these accomplishments proved that team dedication and determination was the main Irish motto. So once again the Irish retained the recognition that they are still a challenge in basketball to every team they encounter. 17
