The highlight of the season was the Irish’s 113 point performance against Rockport, Mo. which set a new school re- cord. The team was led throughout the sea- son by Southern Galaxy All-Conference Steve Pokomy and Bob Aitken. The shooting of Pokomy and Aitken combined with the re- bounding of Hill and Hoy and the ball thievery of Jon Kopetzky and the hustle of Matt Froeschl paved the way for another success- ful season. Irish Show Strength In Spring Sports CLOCKWISE STARTING AT TOP . . . Dan Hill shows his form in the shotput. . . Matt Froeschl and Jon Kopetzky stretch towards the tape in the 100 yard dash.. . Phil Froeschl breaks the tape at the finish of the 880. . . Hill spans the high hurdles with the greates of ease. .. Jon KGpetzky flails his arms for extra distance in the long jump. . . Concentration is etched on the face of Dave Anno in the high hurdles. On April 23, 1976, the annual Activities Banquet was held. The guest speaker this year was Moe Iba, the as- sistant basketball coach at the University of Nebraska. Letters were given to the nineteen boys and seven girls. The KTNC Award was given to three seniors. The foot- ball award went to Tom Harmon, the basketball award went to Matt Froeschl, and the track award to Phil Froeschl. The Activities Banquet climaxed another successful year in Irish athletics. The Irish ended a successful track season by winning the District Track Meet at Fairbury. The Irish also qualified five people in five events for the state meet the following week. At the state meet, the Irish scored nine points and broke two school records. The two-mile relay team of San Cowan, John McGuire, Bob Aitken, and Phil Froeschl placed 5th and lowered the school mark to 8:39.3 Dan Hill placed 3rd in the shot with a toss of 49 11”, also a record. Sam Cowan also claimed 6th place in the mile to complete the scoring. 18
