Twenty-seven members constitute the Irish football team. Irish End Season Ranked 9th In Class D The Irish football team gave the Galaxy Conference six all conference players. On the defensive unit Matt Froeschl was selected at linebacker, Jim Hoy was selected at defen- sive end, Bob Aitken and Jon Kopetzky were selected at defensive backs. On the offensive unit Steve Pokomy was selected at end, Mike Sells at guard, and Bob Aitken at quarterback. Matt Froeschl also won All State honors for his play. At the end of the season. Coach Jenkins named three in- dividuals that he felt had helped the team in one way or another. Matt Froeschl was chosen the Most Valuable Play- er, Tom Harmon was the Most Dedicated Player, and Bill Froeschl the Most Improved Player. It was through the ef- forts of these players and the other nineteen members of the team that lead the Irish to a successful season. The highlight of the season was the Irish’s 113 point performance against Rockport, Mo. which set a new school re- cord. The team was led throughout the sea- son by Southern Galaxy All-Conference Steve Pokomy and Bob Aitken. The shooting of Pokomy and Aitken combined with the re- bounding of Hill and Hoy and the ball thievery of Jon Kopetzky and the hustle of Matt Froeschl paved the way for another success- ful season.
