THE HOMECOMING SKIT of 1973, “Dragnet,” starred Steve Kopetzky, being questioned here by Pat Marx and Mark Huber. In Memoriam We dedicate the planning and preparation of this annual in memory of Steve Kopetzky, our friend and classmate who died on October 14, 1974. Steve was always a leader in the class of '75. The entire school took pride in his many personal victories; he won the Nebraska American Legion Oratorical Contest in both 1973 and 1974, and was a state finalist in the 1973 Voice of Democracy contest. He was honored twice with invi- tations to the American Academy of Achievement. He won the communi- ty’s respect as an outstanding Boy Scout and a dedicated lifeguard. He served our school as co-editor of The Spotlight and junior class pres- ident. He was a member of the football, basketball, and track teams, the band, swing choir, and church guitar choir. At a time when the school was looking forward to the 1975 homecoming festivities, and as the seniors began yearbook preparation, Steve was called away from us. Injured in a football game at Nemaha Valley High School on October 11, he died at a Lincoln hospital on the following Monday. During the long weekend, Falls City united in prayer and hope. We found comfort in Steve's prophetic last words to Coach Jenkins: “O.K., Coach, ...I'm ready to go.'' As we honored Steve with the biggest funeral in Falls City’s history, we remembered the Bible verse that suited Steve so well: “The virtu- ous man, though he die before his time, will find rest. He has sought to please God, so God has loved him.” Steve will be remembered always by his friends as an example of faith and courage. His death left his classmates with a new respect for both life and death. We will always be united by the shared experience of his death, although miles and years may separate us. A DEDICATED ATHLETE, Steve emphasized teamwork as an element of success in football and all sports. STEVE TOOK PRIDE in these trophies which represent three years of successful speech competition. STEVE, AS PRESIDENT of his junior class, spent hours planning and de- corating for the prom. STEVE BECAME INVOLVED in the planning stages of this annual at a workshop held on October 7, just four days before his fatal accident.
