It opened in l923 in the Monastery Hall and occupied two rooms- one on either side of the stage, The business course was the only course offered to the fifty boys and girls who made up the first class. In 1924 the school emerged from its cata- comb life to move into the light of day. It entered the building familiarly known as the Seraphicate and took up its permanent abode becoming known as Sacred Heart High School. The students at Sacred Heart, now as in the past, are drawn from all parts of Yon- kers, the Bronx, and even from 'New York City. The buses, the trolley lines, the sub- Ways serve them and carry them to and from the school and its familiar haunts. All classes are held in the one building, but the Monastery Hall has been a silent witness to their sports, plays, parties, and dances throughout the years, the grade- school playground is their outdoor gym field, Lennon Park, their lunch-hour haunt, Tib- betts Field, their race track, Trevor Park, their ball park, the Monastery Church, their anchorhold. Every class from l923 to 1950 has held these points as possessions, and each year from September until Iune, they feature in the pattern of their lives.
