The boys ' team finishing second to Apponequet in the Mayflower League Championship Race. This equaled the best finish that a Sacred Heart Team ever had. To further highlight the season, George Smith and Andy Cunningham were chosen to the All—League Team, and John Lally was awarded a medal at the Eastern Massachusetts Coaches Race - Freshmen Division. The girls ' team also shown brightly with a 4-3 overall record and a First Place finish at the League Championships. Kathy Cooney, team captain, received a position on the All-League Team, and Kathy Donnelly received a medal in the Eastern Massachusetts Coaches Race - Sophomore Division. The Girls ' Varsity Field Hockey Team began a long season with a defeat by Apponequet. Although always within a goal or two, victory seemed to elude them the entire season. Anne Burgess and Jackie Hannon based a stalwart defense while Tammie Pratt and Amy DeAbreu provided the scoring punch. Deidre Hayes, Helen Tuttle, Nancy Leary and Kathy Ryan provided the other key positions. Tammie was recognized by being chosen a League All-Star. The Junior Varsity fared quite differently this season. With Margaret Kelley leading the scoring and super efforts by Susan McGrale, Mimi Donahue and Laura Maguire, the team never saw defeat. One of the major factors in the spotless season was goal keeper Andrea Meyer. This team will be one to watch in the future!! The Boys ' Varsity Soccer Team battled and gave every opponent a scare, but just couldn ' t come up with a victory. Tie games and close losses seemed to haunt Coach Bruninghaus and his team. But the future looks brighter with juniors Sean Murphy - half back, and Patrick Kelly - 10 goals and 4 assists, who were chosen for the Mayflower All-Star Team. 1982-1983 WINTER SPORTS The Girls ' Varsity Basketball Team continued their winning ways under the direction of Coach Robert Duquette by posting a 10-5 record for the regular season and making it to the League Play-Offs. The girls were stopped by Blue Hills, but finished the year with a win over Old Colony. Leading scorers for the team were Marie Kenniston (15 pts.), Deidre Hayes (10 pts.) and Kathy Cooney (7 pts.), and each was recognized by the league as All-Stars The Junior Varsity Girls also fared well with a 9-2 season, finishing first in the Small School Division of the League. The scoring was led by Amy DeAbreu (13 pt. ave.) and Angie Devoto who had 20 pt. and 18 pt. games respectively, while the defense was led by Karen O ' Neil and Carrie Sullivan. The Boys ' Varsity Basketball under the new leadership of Coach William Foresta and Coach Ron Bruninghaus came up with a good season. The team rebounding was led by Bill Benjamin - setting a school record for rebounds in a season, with Rich Hartnett and Bob James helping out on each side. The scoring was led by Bob James - 186 points for the season; Bill Benjamin and Rich Hartnett, Chris Mascaro, John Arenstam, Pat Kelly and Andy Cunningham took control of directing the ball, while Jim Hufnagle and Mike Lynch helped out up front. The Boys ' Junior Varsity Team demonstrated that the J.V. program is to be a learning experience. And under the direction of Coach Michael Lehane the team started out slowly, never giving up and finally pulling it together to win 2 out of the last 4 games, led by the scoring of Ed Raeke, David O ' Connell and Todd Jacquot. The Cheerleaders while keeping the excitement at a high pitch for all the Boys ' Basketball games, were also preparing for their turn in the spotlight. They captured a third place finish in their first competition - the David Prouty High School Annual Cheerleading Tournament. 1982 SPRING SPORTS The Girls ' Tennis Team ' with an 8-3 season record qualified for the State Tournament. They got past the first team only to be stopped in the | second match. Coach Froman looks forward to having all his team members returning for the 83 season. The Boys ' Varsity Baseball Team struggled through a season that saw the need for a stronger bullpen and a few more clutch hits to £1irn the season around. But a young team and the introduction of a Junior Varsity program makes the future look bright. . The Girls ' Varsity Softball Team, always in the thick of battle, posted a 5-11 season. The team was led by All-Star selection Sue Tabor along with Anne Marie Brinkman, Marie Kenniston and Jackie Hannon. A run or two meant the difference in many a game. With a good number of veterans returning, Coach Duquette is looking forward to the coming season. The Girls ' Junior Varsity Softball Team, with Coach Peter Goode, chalked up a 3-5 record through the efforts of Amy DeAbreu, Patty File, Lori Nordin and Rania Lavranos to lead the team. The players feel that even though they may not have the best record, they surely were the best looking. 105 BEST ATHLETE Ronald Wakefield Sue Tabor SCHOLAR ATHLETE Vinnie Armstrong Anne Marie Brinkman EDWARD L.
