(j ass H slorij There have been six great events in the history of this world. The first was the appearance of Adam and Eve. The second was the rise of King Tut. The third was the death of Julius Caesar. The fourth was the crossing of the Atlantic by Columbus. The fifth was the reign of Jack Dempsey. And the sixth was the entrance of the class of 1964 into Sacred Heart High School. Of these, the first five are of minor importance. Adam and Eve, I believe, are now dead. King Tut is in a museum. Julius has been eclipsed by Mussolini. Columbus has moved to Ohio. And Jack Dempsey is just a faded cauliflower. But the class of 1964, not only is history, but is still making history. In August, 1961, twenty-two meek, frightened freshmen crept unhesitatingly through the portals of Sacred Heart High. What instruments of torture might be awaiting us we did not know; from the dungeon horrors of medieval Europe to the electric chair of modern civilization, we expected and suspected everything. Non-chivalrously we remained in our home-room during breaks fearing the mighty seniors. Leading us that year were: Francis Fuhrmann, president; Earl Cunningham, vice-president; Joyce Owen, secretary; and James Eckart, treasurer. Sponsoring our class was Mr. George Petrus. Selected as Queen candidate was Rita Noggler, and class favorites were Eileen Knauf and Francis Fuhrmann. In spite of all this we prospered during that first year. Little by little our greenness wore off, and our true intelligent natures began to assert themselves. Sponsoring our sophomore class was Sister Theresina. Class officers were: Jeannine Hofbauer, president; Dale Bayer, vice-president; Eileen Knauf, secretary; and David Bayer, treasurer. Our sophomore class favorites were Rita Noggler and Clinton Endres. In the Football Queen's race, Joyce Owen was our candidate. As sophomores, we were permitted the honor of selecting a cheerleader so Rita Noggler was chosen to fill this position. During this year we gave a set of cymbals for the pep-squad and a model head and skeleton for the science department. During that second year it took the combined efforts of all our teachers, and the juniors and seniors to keep us in our place. In our new wisdom we wanted to symbolize the revolt of modern youth. Our third year in Sacred Heart High was one of great progress. In numbers we barely held our own, but in wisdom we became mental giants. We learned how to recite various topics without advanced preparation. We became practiced in the art of making excuses for avoiding home study and other excuses for not having completed assignments. Chosen to lead the class as president was John Paul Endres; vice-president. Frank Schilling; secretary, Eileen Knauf; treasurer, Jeannine Hofbauer. Eileen Knauf was chosen as the junior class cheerleader, and Rita Noggler placed second in the Football Queen's race. Our junior class sponsor was Sister Roberta. Class favorites were Eileen Knauf and John Paul Endres. On May 7, the junior class presented a play: Man Overboard,'' a three-act comedy. Then came our final and most eventful year as a class. As seniors we had learned to get along with a maximum of flowery speech and a minimum of brain racking effort. Of physical wear we report the following: false teeth, none; wooden legs, none; broken bones, six; glass eyes, none; lost appendixes, one; hoarse voices, four; broken hearts, sixteen. All in all we reported to graduation in fair condition. Class officers were Jeannine Hofbauer, president; Thomas Fuhrmann, vice-president; Virginia Taylor, secretary; and Dennis Hess, treasurer. Mr. Adam Wolf was our class sponsor. The three senior cheerleaders were Eileen Knauf, Rita Noggler, and Jeannine Hofbauer. Head squadron leader was Virginia Taylor and assisting her were Shirley Wimmer and Flora Mae Sims. Patsy Streng, senior candidate, became the 1963 Tiger Football Queen and reigned over the Homecoming football game and dance. On March 30 and 31, the juniors and seniors presented, In the Place of the Breaking Light, a musical comedy. Highlighting the year were the sports banquet and dance; the trips to the Dallas Theater Center to see Julius Caesar and Comedy of Errors; the junior-senior banquet and prom; May Crowning with Sodality prefect, Virginia Taylor, crowning the Blessed Virgin; campus day; and our senior trip. Now . . . We Shall Conquer the Tomorrows Before Us.
