HIE EHHIILEIES I' INF SEGGIID li Hi- II Sacred Heart Academy's math- letes sported brains and knowl- edge in the second Annual All-City Math Contest. Placing second, many students obtained perfect scores in the February 23 event. The girls who recieved perfect scores were seniors Kelly For- syth, Mary Kay Armitage, Patrice Schinneer, Lynda Wort, Sue Hicks, and Margaret Kratochvil. Juniors with perfect scores were Linda Drone, Molly Ryan, Mary Brown, Diane Poludniak, Sharon Gorman, and freshmen Theresa Guzzardo, Julie Butler, Robyn Schultz, Mary McCann, Amy Suhs, and Dina Capranica. Math Club took part in other events throughout the year: a trip to the Gateway Arch and Botani- cal Gardens of St. Louis in No- vember, a Decmeber bake sale in Fairhills Mall, and a Math Fair held in Champaingn during March. ' From the slow melodious songs of Billy Joel to the swinging tempos of Art Dietrich, the band soon lost all appre- hension and really began to play what J, ' they felt. Conducting the group for the first time was Dennis Beiermann, head of the music department. By the time the concerts and performances were over, the band had progressed into a true musical group. Perhaps the best defini- tion of Griffin's Jazzband was the say- ing on posters seen all over Griffin: Jazz is alive and well in this school! l , ,rf G.H.S. Band do their stuff.
