I I' ELOYE Ol' H6 SODALITY Composed of dedicated Juniors and Seniors, Sodality is strictly a non-profit organization. Their reward is the self- satisfaction they get from honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary in prayer and with special Masses. Advisor Sister Therese Martin, along with president Sue Roberts and vice- president Louise Phipps, planned ac- tivities with the aged, the sick, and the handicapped. These included visiting nursing homes and driving the elderly to concerts, to name just a few. At the end of a successful Sodality year, the Act of Consecration was made by members in a special Mass in May. lf PR 'S PPER DI S odal1tyRow 1 Becky Hall Georgeanne Bird Trish Kane Ann Tipton Row 2 Julie Young Sue Roberts Louise Phipps. The Key Club of Griffin High School celebrated its twentieth year of exis- tance since Father Leahy initiated the service organization in 1959. About thirty Griffin Students were members of the Key Club, whose goal is to build home, school and communi- ty. The club works closely with the Kiwanis Club of Springfield, and a few members attend the Kiwanis' lun- cheons, held every Wednesday at noon. The activities of the club are service orientated, perhaps their biggest hav- ing been the restoration of the Lincoln Depot. This project received television coverage and was mentioned in the Key Note, a national Key Club publica- tion. The Key Clubbers also cleared ice and snow from Springfield fire hy- drants, along with helping out at the HIE HEY Vachel Lindsay Home and the Gaynor Home. Fund raisers were held to raise mon- ey for conventions and other activities. These included selling Funds-a-Po- pin ' popcorn, selling pillows, and scheduling a slave day. A national Key Club convention was held in the beginning of July for four days in Miami, Florida. Another con- vention, the District Convention, was held in the early part of April in the Chicago area. About ten members at- tended this convention. Speakers were also scheduled for many of the meetings. The speaches described various vocational offerings. Those who spoke were a policeman, a lawyer, an insurance agent, and a banker. Movies were shown almost ev- ery month during the regular meetings. Uf Key Club Row: Father Leahy, Richard VonBehren, David George, Rob VonBehren, Bill Walters, John Armstead.
