A Hlllllii I NIS SS BEWARE THE MONSTER lt took the form of a typewriter and invaded, but I knew it was a monster from the moment of our first scrim- mage. It just sat there with over 40 eyes staring at me. That is, until it caught the scent of my typing paper. I tried to restrain the ravaging jaws from chewing the edges of my paper and unmercifully folding the corners, but it was in vain. I found that the monster had an insatiable appetite for mutilated papers. I managed to survive the two-minute warm-up, but the war raged on for an- other forty-five minutes. The moster fought dirty. fliterallyj When I put in a clean piece of paper it viciously struck the ribbon to mess it up. I put the al- leged typewriter on double-space, but it obnoxiously decided to triple-space. Then when I finally got my strategy or- ganized, and cleared the tabs, the little devil released a secret weapon - the carriage. The mighty missle torpedoed across the battlefield and knocked my typing book to the floor. l rescued the poor, helpless thing and returned it to its former position, but while I was relo- cating, the monster made its next ma- neuver. lt shifted everything over one so that l typed all the words wrong. The final blow came when it forced an inno- cent bystander, the clock, to move its second hand ahead. Unaware that a brutally unfair battle had been taking place, the typing teacher called time. The monster won that day. l turned in a paper with a score of five words per minute with fifteen errors. CThey were all three letter wordsj But l gave the monster a final jab and vowed to conquer it the next day, or else move to a new typewriter.
