Michael Rice, Dean of Studies GHS n School was more the center of an adolescent's life than it is now, stated Fr. Erickson. He was referring to the differences between Cathedral Boys High School in 1958 and Griffin High School in 1979. Fr. Erickson graduated from Cathe- dral Boys' High School in 1958, one year before the school was transferred to the new building on Washington Street. After twenty years he has re- turned, not as a student, but as princi- pal. The new administrator feels that both Cathedral and Griffin are noted for providing quality education. As far as athletics are concerned, Fr. Erick- son asserts that Griffin!Cathedral has always enjoyed strong programs. According to Fr. Erickson, the major differences in the two schools arise from i the drastically different times we live in today as well as from the fact that the Cathedral student popu- lation was about half as big as the Grif- fin student population. Asked if he would rank Cathedral or Griffin higher, Father Erickson re- sponded that in the essential things the two schools are the same. Griffin continues the fine tradition of Catolic education for young men begun by Ca- thedral 50 years ago. The philosophies, loyalty, and pride are still present. Grif- fin is as fine as institution, if not better, than Cathedral.
