SENIORITIS In June of 1978, I began to notice a feeling of power and frenzy overcome me every time the word Senior was mentioned. At first, I thought it was the double taco burger I ate for lunch, or a bad case of sunstroke, but as the sum- - mer progressed I began to notice it ' 5 among my friends. I didn't worry until 1 , my best friend 'suggested starting 1 school three weeks early because it 1 was senior year. Now I knew it was and moreover, it was contagious. Whatever strange malady possessed me, began to pass among my peers in epidemic proportions. Somehow, we all seemed to stand a little bit taller, act a little bit friendlier, and be much, much more important. Others had no- ticed it too. Freshmen would often bow in the hall, sophomores stepped aside to let us pass, and juniors gave us the best parking places in the morning. It seemed no one could escape the influ- ence of the Class of '79. Our class was united by one word, and that was Seniors This word ruled our lives, led us to victory, and gave us our class spirit. ln cheers, in songs, even in themes, this word echoed. The echo resounded throughout Senior year un- til a cure for Senioritis was discov- ered - graduation. In late May of 1979, for one last time, we yelled, Gimme an S! and finally, What's it spelI?
