Brother Warren attended Cathedral High School in Los Angeles and graduated in 1948, Although Brother Warren had to work after school, he was an active mem- ber of the newspaper, yearbook and pho- tography staff, and played one year of football. On July 3, 1948, Brother Warren entered the Christian Brothers' Mont La Selle Novitiate and was robed on January 25, 1949 with Brother Arnold. In 1953 Brother graduated from St. Mary's College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathe- matics. Brother Warren's first teaching assign- ment was at Sacred Heart until 1954 when he was transferred to St. Mary's College High School in Berkley, and became prefect of the boarders. In 1956 Brother took on the job of Athletic Director at San Joaquin High School in Fresno. Brother Warren then was given a National Science Foundation Grant and gained a Master of Science degree in education at the University of Pennsylvania in 1960. Returning again to teaching, Brother was stationed at Cathedral High School in Los Angeles in 1961, and Christian Brothers High School, Sacramento in 1962. In 1963, Brother Warren earned anomer National Science Foundation Grant to the University of Notre Dame. There he gained a Master of Science degree in Mathematics The fall of 1963 brought Brother Warren to Sacred Heart where he has been now for eleven years. Brother Warren has also traveled to all fifty states, Canada and eighteen foreign countries. What does Brother Warren consider his role at SacredHe-art to be? To prepare the students in whatever wayl can for life after high school gradu- ation whether it be college or otherwise. Since rnost of the studentsl have in class, because of the nature of the courses, end up in college. I hope they are well pre- pared for the life of a college student. I hope that they will also pick up other values that they can use throughout their Ilves. 3 'Wo Whether it is socially or athletically, win or lose, we keep our spirit. Come to one of our sporting events, after every game we sing our Alma Mater to show our spirit, unity, and concern . And believe me, at your gradua- tion ceremony, when you come to sing the Alma Mater for the last time, you'll wish you could go through it all again . For some, there was so much to do. To these I say that S.H. will always be here, your days are not yet over. Others found these years to an eternity. It's no wonder that reflections on Sacred Heart have been many -- those of whom they speak are too few. Sacred Heart is a living Spirit, Isincerely hope that means something to youu: Brother Jerome I have been particularly impressed by the spirit of the students at Sacred Heart. Although it sometime spills over into the classroom, with unfortunate effects, it is without a doubt the striking quality of the school. Toby Wolf 0-ua.. , M I am grateful that by teaching here I, too, am a student: A student of youth, a student of life. Dennis Harrington We are in a time when the control of our surround- ings seems easy and desire- able. Often understanding of secondary importance. Hopefully greater insight through education will show us the need to search for ways to live in harmony with nature rather than for ways to dominate it. George Cosmos 1 f c 5- sv , .1, The cooperation, courtesy, and desire of the Irish athletes has made it a pleasure to be associated with the athletic program during the Centennial Year. James Casey The first year at my old Alma Mater l '67l has been a good experience. Most students co-operate and the teachers share a mutual concern over their pupils' welfare. I look forward to many su ccessful years at Sacred Heart. Brother Albert Sacred Heart is not only an institution of formal education but also a place where dedicated men help boys through the difficult but enjoyable process of becoming men. William Corkery Sacred Heart is truly unique for a student is not only provided with an excellent education but a sense of identity, a feeling of belonging to a community, a family --- not just a school. Through school spirit, student government, activities and athletics he grows from boyhood to manhood. Fortunate indeed is the student who attends Sacred Heart. Tscheekar 70 ,. 7 sb Sacred Heart High School is more than just an education, it is an experience, Of the many facets of this experience, I would like to highlight one that is little seen. At Sacred Heart, there is a spirit among the faculty members that is like no other school, The faculty members share not only a common concern for the students and for the school, they share and care about one another, They spent time together both in school and outside school, They know one another's families and share in the joys and sorrows of each other. Part of the credit for this unique spirit certainly belongs to the Christian Brothers who have gone out of their way to open the doors of their com- munity from time to time to the faculty and their families. They have successfully attempted to promote a family spirit within the faculty which is one small part of the larger family that Sacred Heart is. James Myers 'N ,f fy! , I 1 'S .f ' I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to coach at Sacred Heart, When you put so much time and energy into something, it is a great feeling to know that other people are also concerned, When the rooting section says 'WE ARE SH', they mean it win, lose, or draw, As a coach this gives you a great feeling of togetherness, which is so important in athletics. Robert Roehl i Teaching and coaching at Sacred Heart has been a very rewarding ex- perience for me. The last two years of football have been very frustrating for both the players and coaches. Under the circumstances it would have been very easy to give up, but they never did. Winning is important, but the fact that the players did their best and tried their hardest is all I can really ask for. I'm proud to be associated with Sacred Heart. Michael Holmgren fl . V . There exists a 'closeness' at Sacred Heart which makes it stand out among other schools. To witness the harmony between our administration, faculty, and student body, makes one optimistic about the chances of our being able to formalize and achieve common goals and ideals. It's a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of this unique, spirited institution. John J. Jamison J ...1-fi' ,.,..-- V i -,,f.--- ,.......z 3.13 Each and every school is unlque. What I find unique about Sacred Heart is the quality school spirit. To see stu- dents who are proud of the school they attend gives the faculty the encourage- ment that the students take their education seriously. Brother Kevin Berntson 71 Teaching chemistry is enjoyable but at times it can be a drudgery, It is the students, however, who constantly make teaching a rewarding experience, Here at Sacred Heart, we have students who with their frankness and honesty are willing to challenge a teacher and his ideas, both inside and outside the classroom, And it is this frankness and honesty that helps make the Sacred Heart student unique and distinctive, Emil Nloy X iii, l Spirit equals participation whether it be as a spectator, athletic participant, class officer, or club member. Steve Ellison There is a certain something about Sacred Heart that stays with you for the rest of your life. Whether you want to label it as the spirit of the Brothers, the spirit of the athletic contest, or the spirit of comrade- ship, it is an experience that one will never forget. lVli ch ael Otterstedt , M, A.-. INIUNYOYTDI ' 'V' of, ,, , . St. John Baptist De La Salle lVlore than three hundred years ago St. John Baptist De La Salle, regarded as the Patron of all Teachers, laid the foundation for free public schools and modern education . With his found- ing of the Christian Brothers schools, he raised teaching from a degrading occupation to an honorable profession and established the right of poor children to be given an education with- out cost. Though he was conscience of its limitations, he advanced the idea of simultaneous teaching of an entire class in a subject, rather than the prevailing plan of individual teacher-child in- struction . Among his many innovations he sponsored and conducted schools for delinquent youths as an alternative to sending them to jail, opened Sunday schools to benefit children who labored during the week, and began instruction in the trades, so those even partially educated could make a living as artisans . He established the first training schools for the education of teachers and prepared rules of conduct, obediance, and discipline for the Brothers and the pupils. He designed the Brothers' style of dress to remind them of their vows, and indicate to the public their role in society and the church . To De La Salle, though, religion was the very essence of education, and a teacher's primary duty was to instill virture in his pupils. His aim was not just to impart knowledge, but also to inculate the Christian ideals. He opened the door of hope for teeming masses sunk in ignorance, depravity, and want by creating a system of education practical in its form, Christian in its aims, efficient in its methods, and based upon a body of trained teachers willing to dedi- cate their lives to education . . De La Salle's tremendous dedication was slow in evolving, but the stress and pressure of his educational adventure only transformed the overt kindling in his heart into a ravaging conflagation that enabled him to persevere . His own words, simplicit and moving, exemplify his life to best. God, who conducts all things with wisdom and sweetness, and who does not force the inclina- tion of man, wished to employ me completely in the work of education, but He did it imperceptibly and in a long drawn out way, in such ways that one commitment led to another without my having foreseen it at the start. In the beginnings of the Christian Brothers, more than two centuries ago, De La Salle gathered 10 men who pledged themselves with him, to lives devoted to teaching the poor. Now Christian Brothers are in 5 continents, and number over 18,000, bringing instruction, in- spiration and zeal for the salvation of souls to more than 3X4 of a million students in 88 countries . It is hard to believe that one man is responsible for this, but St. John Baptist De La Salle was unique , That is truly unfortunate . . . if only there were more . 1874 - 1900 Sacred Heart was founded by the Christian Brothers to meet the educational needs of the growing city by the bay. Education at this time was not provided for everyone . Only the middle-class and wealthy had the money to send their children to schools or provide tutors . The Christian Brothers following the principles of their patron saint, St. John Baptist De La Salle, established Sacred Heart College for the needs of the deprived boys of San Francisco. On January 5 , 1874, the new college threw open its doors for admission of students . At the close of the first week nearly seven hundred pupils were registered. These stu- dents were placed in one of the four departments of study offered at Sacred Heart. The departments were the collegiate, a three year course, the academic, a four year course, the commercial, a two year course open to graduates of grammar schools, and the prepara- tory or grammar school course in four grades open to boys of ten years or over. Some members of the faculty on the opening day were Brothers Cianan, Gustaus tpresident, vice-presidentl, Walter, Julius, Euphrasius, Bosonis, Agnon tat this time professor of psychology at St. lVlary's College in Oaklandi, and Nicholas J . O'Connell, grandson ofthe great Irish liberator. The usual pattern of life for the boys in those early decades usually found them enter- ing the labor market by the time they were fourteen years of age or even earlier. If the students had received sufficient education to read, write, and do arithmetic it was con- sidered enough education for placing them as apprentices in one of the trades or commer- cial establishments in San Francisco. Since the age for admission to Sacred Heart was ten years of age, the number of graduates during this quarter century was relatively small. The first commencement excercises were held in the college auditorium on the evening of Wednesday, IVlay 27, 1874 . However, Sacred Heart had been operating for less than five months and no students had yet graduated. The first students to graduate received their diplomas from the commercial department the following year. Among the graduates of 1875 were Richard L. Barry, Edward Craven, Joseph Donohue, IVlatthew C . Batemen, John C . Batemen, William B . lVlcKee and John C . Ougnen. The collegiate department graduated its first students in 1876. Richard L. Barry and Albert A. Touchard were among those who received certificates. The graduates of 1877 included William D. O'Kane, Andrew J. Dean, and Vincent P . Buckley . lVlr. Dean and IVlr. Buckley received their degrees the following year from St. lVlary's College and were the first graduates of that institution to take up the study of medicine . From 1874 to 1 901 the total number of students listed as graduates numbered only four hundred seventy-five, a little over twice the number who now receive diplomas in a single year. It is interesting to note that not until 1893 is there a record of an interschool athletic event. The first event was the first football game played in San Francisco between Sacred Heart and St. Ignatius . A Sacred Heart man by the name of Kennedy Cwho later became a parish priest at St. Paul's Church? led Sacred Heart to a fourteen to four victory over St, Ignatius . The game was played at the site where the Townhouse Hotel now stands. 1900 - 1909 During the early 1 900's, San Francisco continued its growth and reputation as a hospitable city, lVlost everyone, students included, rode a bicycle in those days although some of the new horseless carriages made their appearance . Athletics at Sacred Heart began to emerge as a regular school activity with the forma- tion ofthe baseball team in 1900 . The team began its existense by beating St. Ignatius on Washington's Birthday with the score of seven to five . This led to fourteen more wins and only two losses . Whenever the team won a game Brother Hosea, their coach, pre- sented the players with holy cards . If they lost they were awarded with two or three extra problems in trigonometry . This might explain their successful season . The baseball team of 1910 appeared on the baseball diamond as a member of the Academic Athletic League which included other San Francisco teams . That season Sacred Heart won twenty-three, lost four and tied three . They beat every team in San Francisco and lost only to such teams outside the city as St. IVlary's, Phoenix, Santa Clara and Fort Baker. On April 18, 1906 San Francisco experienced the greatest catastrophe in its his- tory. Along with much of San Francisco between Van Ness Avenue and the Ferry Building, Sacred Heart College, then located at Eddy and Larkin Street, was destroyed in the fire which followed the earthquake. The only salvaged items from the ashes was a photograph album and some old tuition accounts . In the years following San Francisco devoted its entire energy to reconstruction of the city. Sacred Heart held classes in a relocated building behind Sacred Heart Church at Fell and Fillmore Streets . 1910 - 1919 Up until 1913 Sacred Heart College occupied the temporary structure at Fell and Fill- more Streets. A new location for the school had been purchased at Ellis and Franklin Streets . The building had been finished and opened in 1 914 . The original plans had only provided for two stories which was found to be inadequate for the needs of the students and faculty. ln 1918 Archbishop Riordan made plans for further expansion which was continued under the supervision of Archbishop Hanna . A third story was added to the building along with new facilities for various science classes . During this period of reconstruction San Francisco grew and so did Sacred Heart and the students who attended it. The first basketball team of Sacred Heart was formed in 1911 , with only two interschool games scheduled - both with the Wildcats of Ignatius. This marked the first time the two institutions met on the basketball court. Sacred Heart defeated S .I . in both contests with scores of 38-16 and 34-16 . On the baseball diamond Sacred Heart won the San Francisco Championship by de- feating St. Ignatius 9-6 and taking possession of the A. J . Reach baseball trophy. The Blue 8tWhite of S . H . were led by Harry Home Run Kid Heilmann, class of 1912, who connected for three hits including a home run against the Wildcats . Heilmann played base- ball after high school and became a major league Hall of Famer playing for such teams as the Detroit Tigers and Cincinati Reds, Harry Heilmann was joined by Joseph Cronin who graduated from S .H . in 1924 and became a member ofthe Hall of Fame in 1956 . Sacred Heart claims the honor of being the only high school in the country to have two graduates in the Baseball Hall of Fame. During the school's fourth decade of existence clubs and dramatic productions played a ma'or role along with sports at Sacred Heart College , Among the clubs were the Azaria's Readjing Club, the drama society, the Commercial Society, and the combined yearbook and newspaper of the school, the Blue 8. White. This early decade of Sacred Heart College marked influential events such as the Christian Brothers Jubilee, celebrated in 1913, which marked fifty years of service by the Brothers on the Pacific Coast. Another important event at this time was the opening the Panama Pacific Exposition which many Sacred Heart students attended, The biggest confrontation had ended on November 11 , 1 918 . Sacred Heart students were among the throngs of people who converged onto Market Street to celebrate the ending of World War l . 1920 - 1929 The 20's was a period of transition for Sacred Heart High School. In 1923 the school dropped the title of 'College' because it then became mostly a secondary education institution or 'high school .' A record of students viewpoints, their activities and accom- plishments can be found in the student newspaper the Blue 84 White which first appeared in newspaper form in 1922. The front page ofthe initial Blue 8i White vowed the intention with which the paper was being printed. lt went as follows, With this issue ofthe Blue 84 White News we make our vow to the journalistic world . We aim to please, to keep a live, healthy school spirit and to enliven school life. A reflection of the times is an article which appeared in January, 1 923, commenting on plans to build a bridge to join San Francisco and lVlarin County. This would be a very good means of using the extensive areas of that side of the bay, wrote the author of the article, then he added, But in my opinion the other bridge tSan Francisco-Oakland? is far more necessary at the present time. Still on the subject of bridges a contest was held for the lower division classmen on the best means for joining San Francisco and the East Bay. The most favored opinion centered on undenlvater tubes which they termed as Victory Tubes . With the coming of BART their dream comes true. On November 28, 1922, the city newspaper headlines proclaimed Sacred Heart 3, St. lgnatius O which broke a three year losing streak to the Wildcats . The football team won the annual game in the next five years . Debating became a major student activity in this period and the topics were reflections ofthe times. ln 1924, John O'Kane, representing Sacred Heart, won the Northern Cali- fornia-Nevada District Championship in the national oratorial contests and went on to meet the winners from the Southern California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho in the Pacific Coast finals . Former students were also in the news . Dolph Camilli was playing for the city's base- ball team the San Francisco Seals in 1927 . That same year Sacred Heart alumnus Brother Gregory was named the Pacific Coast regioh as provincial . 1 929 saw the Golden Jubilee of the Blue 84 White magazine. From the first edition of 1879, the Blue 84 White has flourished into one of the foremost publications of its kind in the bay region. 1930 - 1939 The 30's brought about the great depression. For the student at school having just a nickel was the luxury of the times . Being mainly a high school at this period, Sacred Heart was used as a college pre- paratory institution. The depression did not get the students' spirit down. High school life was exciting as ever. Reflections of this time came from an article in the Blue 84 White November 2, 1932, an issue on the Senior Formal Dance, as follows: Talk of the Senior Formal has been heard among the 'high and mightyl' lt resolves itself down to a very simple problem, spend S15 to 'put on the dog' for one night and then walk the streets dead broke for the next five weeks . ln 1933 the school yearbook was eliminated, because, as explained by Brother Victor, principal C1 932-19389, The expense that such an enterprise would incur could be put to much greater good in this period of economic strife. The class of 1933 has produced many successful graduates including the present mayor of San Francisco, Joseph Alioto . He was the Student Body President, on the honor roll, and a member of the varsity debating team . World War ll started on September 1 , 1939 and a great many Sacred Heart men ser- ved in this war for their flag and country. A commemorative plaque with the names of those alumnus who died in the wars can be found enshrined in the main hall of Sacred Heart High School on Ellis and Franklin Streets. 1940 - 1949 The 1 940's brought the United States into a war which was already engulfing Europe and was soon to spread into the Pacific . Along with the entire nation, World War ll brought great changes into the lives of Sacred Heart students . The student body was re- peatedly called upon to support the numerous war loans while defense stamps and war bonds were often used as scholastic awards. ln the homes, food stamps, and rationing became a way of life . Although the students had to do without many of the frills associated with high school days, there were still monthly dances in the auditorium where students enjoyed musical selections as Stardust, Temptation, and Twelfth Street Rag. The class of 1940 chose the King of Swing Benny Goodman and his orchestra for the Senior Formal Dinner-Dance at the IVIark Hopkins Hotelinstead of Glen IVIilIer and his band, then play- ing at the Palace Hotel. This decade also brought about new changes for Sacred Heart. New courses had been added such as journalism, advanced mathematics, physics, and other sciences . The class of 1 945 broke the seventy-two year tradition of having school jackets by ordering class sweaters. IVIore organizations made the scene like the glee club, camera club, and a forensic society . A new school band had been formed in the early part of 1 948 . On the gridiron, the 'Fighting Irish' greeted the forties with their victory over the Wildcats. This marked the first victory over arch-rival St. Ignatius since 1936 . The same team coached by Spud Spalding, went through the season ending up the winners of the Northern California Catholic Football Championship. Another winning team for the Irish was the baseball team as they took the A.A,A, Crown at this time , A new tradition had its start in 1946 , The Bruce-IVIahoney Trophy had been initiated by Sacred Heart's student body president Frank Antonini and St. Ignatius' student body president Frank Fraher. They agreed that a trophy be awarded representing the three major sports played at each school and serve as a reminder of the rivalry . The Bruce-IVIahoney Trophy is awarded every year to the school that wins the majority of games played . The trophy was named as a memorial to a former alumnus of each school, who while at their respected schools were outstanding as leaders and later died in World War II in the service of his country. Jerry IVIahoney of Sacred Heart and William Bruce of St. Ignatius were selected. The forties also marked the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Christian Brothers service on the Pacific Coast. This Diamond Jubilee marked the excellence in devotion to high quality education and the Christian way of life . 1950 - 1959 Throughout the world, 1 950-51 was set aside as the ,La Sallain year. It was a year in which the Brothers, in special measure, paid tribute to the founder ofthe Christian Brothers, St. John Baptist De La Salle, Their institution shows the workings of the founder's principles and devotion that are still used today, Among the student body's achievements for this decade was a fine display of Sacred Heart's athletic ability in winning the A .A .A . baseball championship. The athletic progrlam took its biggest leap forward during the fifties with the aid of fine athletes and coac es . In 1951 the Brothers' house was relocated from Ellis and Franklin Streets to the corner of Ellis and Gough Streets. The lot occupied by the former residence was used to construct a gymnasium which still stands today . It is interesting to note that basketball games were held in the school's auditorium before the construction. January 5 , 1 954 marked the school's eightieth anniversary. It was also the year for the Blue 84 White newspaper to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary of publication as a news- paper, Being more of a college preparatory than just secondary education, Sacred Heart's students that graduated during this period chose to further their schooling at such colleges as St. lVlary's College, a Christian Brothers institution, the Universities of San Francisco and Santa Clara, both under Jesuit direction . Still with the faculty of today who were at Sacred Heart during the 1 950's are Brothers Columban, Conrad, and Edmund. 1960 - 1969 The 1960's were a time of great cultural and economic growth . Events which had evident affect on the students were the assination of President John Kennedy and the landing of Apollo 1 1 on the moon. Scholastically students at Sacred Heart were awarded 572,000 in State Scholar- ships in one year, an outstanding achievement for a single school . Social events, such as dances and rallies, played an important role in the 60's. Sports became the number one pastime of the students, both athlete and fan . This decade brought about successful teams to Sacred Heart, The football team of 1 965-66 took the Round-Robin A.A .A . Championship. On the basketball court the 'Fighting Irish' proved to everyone that they were number one by winning the A .A .A . Crown in 1 962 , 1 963, 191646 and 1 968 . On the baseball diamond the Irish took the league pennant in 1960 an 1 61 . ln April, 1 969, Brother Arnold, principal since 1 965 , officially announced the termination of Sacred Heart's affiliation with the A .A .A . 4Academic Athletic Associationl. The school soon joined the W.C .A .L . CVVestern Catholic Athletic League? which includes Riordan and St. Ignatius. The year of 1 968 saw the Christian Brothers celebrate the centennial of their appear- ance in San Francisco. It commemorated the arrival of Brother Justin and seven volunteer Brothers to take over St. lVlary's College and revitalize Catholic education in the Northern California-Oregon diocese . 1970 - 1974 The final chapter of Sacred Heart's first one hundred years draws to an end during these years . The long list successful graduates who have walked the halls of Sacred Heart has proven that the school has played an important role in education in the San Francisco Bay Area. During the 1970's the spirit of the student body excelled. A spirit of unity was felt around the school as the students saw all their teams successful in the W.C .A ,L . Spirit was also present when the lay faculty of Sacred Heart along with other lay faculties of other Catholic high schools went on strike . The associated student body of Sacred Heart banned together and formed their own system of substitute education . Honor students served as teachers. This program only lasted for two weeks and during this time students organized a walk out calling for Mayor Alioto's help. The mayor complied and soon after substitutes for the striking teachers were brought in . This brought about another walk out by the students, after which the administration had to take action and close the school . A meeting was called between the administration, lay faculty, and the superintendent of schools, and the students and their parents . After this meeting the strike was soon re- solved one week before Christmas 1972 . The varsity football team of 1 972 proved to the other teams in the W .C .A .L . that Sacred Heart was indeed not to be underestimated . Despite their three win and three loss season the lrish beat the previous year's league champions, lVlitty High School, and St. Ignatius, teams which were considered much stronger teams . The basketball team took everything in sight in 1972 . After a seven win and three loss practice season the team went into league play with high hopes. lt proved to be a fantastic eleven win and one loss season, The Irish beat St, Francis High School of lVIountain View, the only team to beat S .H . in league play, for the W .C .A .L . Crown . After winning the championship the Irish went into the Sectional Playoffs which included teams from other leagues who had won their respected championships . The team won their first three games in order to meet the team that won the Central Coast Championship the year before . That team was Alisal High School of Salinas, California. With brilliant ball handling and perfect execution the Irish of Sacred Heart became the new champions by the score of 54-58 . The celebration of Sacred Heart's Centennial was drawing near. The moderator ofthe alumni association held a contest for the students to design a seal which would commemo- rate the event. Two students combined their respected designs and made the official seal. They were Salvador Abaunza and Gary Bell, both ofthe class of 1974 . On January 5 , 1 974 Archbishop lVlcGucken and twenty other priests talumni and friends of the school? concelebrated a IVlass in honor of Sacred Heart High School and the Christian Brothers . lVlany past graduates attended the lVlass along with friends and sup- porters ofthe school . A reunion was held in the school after the lVlass . The year 1974 is the closin era of Sacred Heart's first one-hundred years and the end of four years of study and ok? friendships for the class of 1 974 . They will be the one-hundredth graduating class in the one-hundredth and first commencement excercises for Sacred Heart High School. Xnlunu' .XXXX N NEWLY Ullll.-UN lill .', I O Rev. Wllter H. An appeal play by the Monarchs ended the inning and disallowed two of Sacred Heart's runs, prompting the Irish coaching staff to protest the game . Play con- tinued with a score of 3-3, and IVIitty ended up winning in extra innings 4-3. The next day it was ruled that our protest was upheld and that the game would be re- played from the point of protest. This meant that play would resume with IVIitty batting in the 6th inning with the score 5-3 in favor of the Irish. The location of the game also was moved to Fitzgerald Field in San IVIateo. The Irish, with new life, held on for a 5-4 victory. The game ended in a brawl caused by uncontrolled harrassment by IVIitty players upon the Irish. Tempers were frayed on both sides and the fight inevitably erupted . However harangued, the Irish still left the field victorius, leaving IVlitty a loser's bus ride home, .. .- -- -x -Tax A wgxxxf., .,,?- -,Q-vxxx,--...-- :NIR i l...'A . - - . -s X1 lbs'-lv--is 5 Y v. Brother Conrad has always put the needs of the students and of the school ahead of his own. His love and dedication thru the years has always served as an example for past alumni and present students in forming Christian values. To this man the 1974 Shamrock Staff extends a word of thanks for everything. GRAD ATI G CLASS OF 1889 ,. A V, , A g . A 2 :- 'illl I ' 1 5, ' 1, ' -1 I - ,A A , at r wtf i-'A V: Ad .M H-A .
