ALMA MATER Dear Alma Mater-our school days within your sheltering walls are drawing to a close. We have lived with you and loved you through four happy and memorable years. These years will always be cherished and remembered though some say we'll forget you. They say we'll forget your steps-which lead to your heart, waiting to receive us and to impart to us love, friend- ship and knowledge. statue of the Sacred Heart-Whose name you bear, looking down on us, inviting us to give a nod of greeting or to whisper, Thank you for Your Help. halls-which are always thronged with your students, some laughing, others sad, many enthusiastic, but all hurrying. classrooms-that listen to our notations and half-questioning replies, our laughter, our half sighs of disappointment, yet remain silent and pass no judgment. doorways-through which we pass on out way to greater things, mentally, morally, spiritually. auditorium-which vibrates with the melodies of the Glee Club, witnesses our original presentations in Dramaticsg sees faces react to performances, and, transformed into a Court for our Eucharistic King during the time of retreat, learns of our ambition for the higher things. uniformed girls-struggling with books, laughing about their experiences, pondering over Latin, wondering about equations, talking to God during retreat--happy young girls working for and with Christ. gym-whose rafters ring with the shouts of jubilant victors or are hushed with the sighs - of game losers. apple orchard--whose leaves shade us in our frolic and whose branches satisfy our desire for fruit. shrine of Our Lady-waiting for us to come, listening to our tales of woe, sharing our secrets of joy, counseling in trouble and difliculty. teachers-as necessary as the bricks and cement which hold you together, they uphold the truths of God, directing us and guiding us, always there with a helping hand or an answer, sacrificing their lives to God for us. No, never shall we forget you though we leave forever your fostering care. Your truths and your principles are everlasting. You will always remain in our hearts as the dearest, truest, most understanding friend on earth. We will your counsels forever heed And daily seek for the higher things So that by our every deed To you we'll honor bring. A ALICE HYNES 5
