I I ' I I 0 Q - U SALUTATORY We the graduatrng class of Sacred Heart Academy of 1952 wrsh to extend to you a srncere welcome There rs somethrng heartenrng rn the feelrng that someone rs rn the background wartrng to sympathrze wrth our farlures and to applaud our sue cesses There have been umes too when we have had need of your frnancral ard Your rnterest and generosrty have never farled us Now that we have completed our Hrgh School educatron we leave the securrty of our dear school to face the world Everyone knows that rt rs a world wrth a severe rt ls wrth antrcrpatron and courage that we encounter them We have completed a currrculum of subjects requrred by the State of Oregon but the additional moral trarnrng that we have obtarned from our dear teachers and parents has prepared us to live rn drgnrty and gives us a healthy consrderauon for the rrghts of others Thrs makes us worthy c1t1zens to compete wxth contemporarres for success rn thrs the country of unlrmrted opportun ues It rs wrth deepest appreclatron that we say Thank you Susan Vandenberg headache and that the problems we must solve are indeed complex and difficult. But O Four years ago elghteen green little scholars entered upon thelr hrgh school career The flrst memorable event mn high school was, of course, rnrtiatron After thxs we were considered full fledged freshmen and shared rn all the socral functrons that year Our Sophomore year was excxtrng and eventful After much hard work we proudly put on the Sophomore Hop, choosmg the theme Look For the Srlver Lrmng Frexda Waldron and Eleanor McKLLl1p were added to our famed class thrs year The next year we roamed the halls of S H A as upper classmen, Darlene Reed and Sarah O Keefe were imtlated mto the ways of our class After our experience the year before we had lrttle trouble rn sponsormg the Junior Prom The Pep Club dance a Basket Ball was somethmg new And now, at last, after lookmg forward to it for so long we are Semors We were very busy Studres took up much of our time however, we managed to be active rn boys and gurls Lettermans Clubs Pep Club Madngals and Sodallty Bob Howard heads the class as presr dent, Marlene Mrngo IS vlce presrdent and Darlene Reed rs the Scnbe She also takes care of our treasury Katy Moeschler enjoys our actrvrtres wlth us this year Among these were a Thanksgxvrng basket for the poor Only now as our anxrously awarted graduatlon approaches and we stop a moment tolook over our hrgh school years do we begln to apprecrate all the help and patrence of our teachers CLASS HIST RY O We re upper classmenl Yes, the 28 sophomores of 51 entered the Academy rn Septernberas full fledged Juniors Feelrng like old timers at SHA they readrly began to particrpate in the many school actrvines whrch included sports Pep Club Madrigal Ensemble, Letterrnans Clubs Junior Red Cross and of course studres Typrng shorthand and bookkeepmg were new and drfferent subjects to the Junrors history Religion, and English completed the schedule of the Juniors Leading the class as president was Wayne Neubert and to SSSISI hmm the class chose vice president Bill Burrrtt Secretary Barbara Anderson and treasure Jane Gray Gold and white were the class colors and for the flower everyone agreed that rt must be the red rose It was a hard but wise decision the Juniors made when they selected the attractrve class rings The rings have a white gold base with 1953 engraved on them with the symbol SHA standrng out rn the center The class was very proud of the Tbanksgivmg basket wluch they frlled wrth chicken, white and sweet potatoes cranberries and other festive foods The basket was grven to a less fortunate family The Juruor Prom was the big event for the Class of 53 but the tradrtronal Senror Banquet was also consrdered simply great Yes the Juniors have had a busy and memorable year and wrll be back as Seniors to end their wonderful school days at SHA JUNIOR CLASS HIST RY who eagerly accepted, This, plus the more difficult subjects: physics, American WAYNE NEUBERT President E ANDERSCH B BURRITT C CHUBA ho- ? v ms RA M GUIDI 1 B OWARD E PATSCH M SCALA D SHUUP J SLOWEY K Kelly v sMrrH s SNYDER ,AJ J U FJ I CD R S M EGAN T HARRINLJ 1 UN P PRATT Q B SMETZ B SOKALL I ELIE J HILIULKUQ B PLUMMER C SMITH B Koch F' J F 12 . ,Q at Lf C' P Q I . -f iz V P L, E J.
