W e Increased ur Knowledge Through Staying up nights until 11:30 and missing favorite television programs was the price of taking a Latin course. Freshmen found that Latin was not as hard as their older sisters had predicted but difficult enough. Seniors found that the mention of their taking the fourth year of Latin produced a look of respect from peers and adults. Declensions, conjugations and vocabu- lary had seemed hopeless but proved conquerable. There were no declensions but there were the unavoidable con- jugations in German. After a few months of class SHAers were able to hold dialogues, some memorized, some devised by themselves, with other members of their class. Memorizing sentences every night proved tiresome but helpful in learning the mechanics of sen- tence structure-even good training for UN translators. Culturally-minded frauleins pat up articles and pictares displaying the beauties of Germany. W e Learned the Importance of Cultural Previously hidden artistic talents revealed themselves through SHA's art courses. SHAers painted, sculpted, and even fashioned their own Christmas cards. This year there was an art festival and SHAers, art students or not, entered it. All sorts of media, from hand-painted stationery to masks, were a part of the festival. In Music Appreciation, Simon and Garfunkel were as much under the classes' study as was Beethoven, quite a surprise for those who thought music in school could only be high-brow. Chorus included lectures on com- posers, conductors and Louisville's Cultural events. as Academies Katie Glazrber and Mary Bateman work for improve- ment of craftsmanship in art clan.
