Although costumes were not required, all juniors and seniors were urged to wear them to create a New Orleans spirit. SHAers and their dates appeared in outfits ranging from Indians, tigers and clowns to Bonnies and Clydes, Scarlett O'Haras, and 1920 flapper girls. As the first Mardi Gras Queen, Georgia Keegan reigned throughout the night with Debbie Pearce as Princess. As chorus is compulsory for underclassmen, the shaking-frosh tried out for parts in the three part choral group. Juniors and seniors could also join the chorus and they faced a year of music and life appreciation, voice exercises, student concert tickets and fast schedules on concert days, and a large repertoire to memorize by the spring choral program. During this time, Mrs. Von Barkhausen put up with slumped stu- dents, wrinkled music and airy voices. All survived and hasty preparation began for the concert held April 5. This meant last minute practices, fittings on stage and no classes. For the students, each reward of the past year was in the audience's applause and Mrs. Von Bfs smile. 156 School Lyfe Sclzicri' ,Diff forth every efforl In .ting their basl, as lhcy fry to make lbeir lm! ,brogrmzz mewomble. m.al1M1K-, iw- Q!
