A Hard-Fought Game of Hockey, Played Though not a winning team, the varsity was a high- spirited, hard-working fun-loving one. During hockey season, several team members trotted around the block to keep in shape-onto lose their shape by trotting to MacDonald's after the games. It will be hard to forget the rainy day bonfires, the Saturday grass-cutting ses- sions, and Parson Baldygais glove. Co-captained by Puddin Handleman and Carol Kunk, Mrs. Volz's Valkyries brought back half a frozen Mug. The season ended with a progressive dinner and a tearful farewell to Mother, who coached for her last season this year. Although they didn't manage to win first place in their league, surrendering without a good, fierce fight was an un- heard of thing for the Sacred Heart Valkeries. Co- captains Ann Maloney and Kitty Krauser were re- sponsible for most of the spirit along with coach Mrs. Lavada Larkins who molded the SHA Varsity students into basketball stars at the exhausting practices, three times each week, including Sundays. Mrs. Larkins at- tempted to instill such basketball skills as accuracy in them by hanging a clown's face from the wall and letting them try to hit the nose. Ann Maloney also re- ceived the sportsmanship award. E 61
