Farewell, Seniors My dear Seniors, Only a few weeks ago, it seems, I registered you as freshmen of Sacred Heart Academy. And it appears hardly more than yesterday that you registered as seniors. Wound tight in my memory is a reel of events-the Back-to-School dance when you were timidly standing in the classrooms talking to your teachers while your dates, your former eighth grade classmates, were holding up the walls in the gymnasium, the basketball practices where you gave promise of winning every scheduled game, your first retreat-how earnest you were! Then came the Sophomore year where one of your classmates reigned as Valentine Queen, the Sophomore Tea, the May Procession. Class pins loomed up in the Junior year-you were upperclassmen now but yearning eagerly for the advent of the Senior year. It came with its class rings, class play, junior- Senior banquet, prom, and at last-graduation. The pictures are many and varied, sweet memories. No wonder God gave us memories so we can have roses in December. You have now taken flight from the school that for some years formed your nest. Scarcely anything in life so mixes the bitter with the sweet as a high school gradu- ation. It is laughter and tears, the one inseparable from the other, for it is both the end and the beginning. The last tattered page closes on a finished volume, and a new and cleaner one opens. The old school will miss you, but the old one's loss is the new one's gain. My eyes grow a bit misty as I say farewell. Farewell, my dear girls! May God bless you and keep you ever close to His side. May He shield you from harm, comfort you in sorrow, and smile upon your joys and successes. Your principal and always your friend, SISTER M. THEODOLINDA
