'fs fn A, Dedication We, The Angeline Staff of 1955, dedicate this yearbook to the memory of Father Daniel A. Lord, SJ., who was a friend to all at Sacred Heart since his first visit in 1925. We feel that we have been fortunate to have known this giant of God, this champion of youth. He has given to each of us the realization of our debt of gratitude to our parents, our Church, our country, and to our Alma Mater- dear Sacred Heart. May the Blessed Mother, whom he loved so dearly, take this son of hers and enfold him closely in her mantle of love. JUDY YOUNG Ay merry ar the day is long. -Shakespeare Glee Club 1, 2, 3, 4, Dance Committee 3g News Staff 4, Sophomore Scribbler, Junior Journal, 100 Club Representative 1, House Committee, Class Play. Dear Mother and Dad, The white cap and gown . . . the cherished diploma . . . the quick hug after it's all over . . . the sudden sniffles' '... graduation perhaps more than any other time makes parents realize that the long, hard job is almost over. Their children have finally reached the threshold of adulthood. This is a meaningful day for us, Mother and Dad . . . a day of achieve- ment. But compared with your efforts, graduation for us is only the first few hundred feet up the mountain. You've been climbing it since we were born, aided by the ax of self-sacrifice and the strong rope woven of patience and love. In a very real sense, this is YOUR day to be congratulated. You have achieved the great goal of sending into the world a girl whose firm Christian principles, bolstered by the example of a fine Catholic home, will be her life-long guides in shaping a better world. This is our ucommencementf' the beginning of the hike, but you have reached the summit. We hope the sun is shining up there. You deserve it. Your loving daughter, Farewell, Seniors My dear Seniors, Only a few weeks ago, it seems, I registered you as freshmen of Sacred Heart Academy. And it appears hardly more than yesterday that you registered as seniors. Wound tight in my memory is a reel of events-the Back-to-School dance when you were timidly standing in the classrooms talking to your teachers while your dates, your former eighth grade classmates, were holding up the walls in the gymnasium, the basketball practices where you gave promise of winning every scheduled game, your first retreat-how earnest you were! Then came the Sophomore year where one of your classmates reigned as Valentine Queen, the Sophomore Tea, the May Procession. Class pins loomed up in the Junior year-you were upperclassmen now but yearning eagerly for the advent of the Senior year. It came with its class rings, class play, junior- Senior banquet, prom, and at last-graduation. The pictures are many and varied, sweet memories. No wonder God gave us memories so we can have roses in December. You have now taken flight from the school that for some years formed your nest. Scarcely anything in life so mixes the bitter with the sweet as a high school gradu- ation. It is laughter and tears, the one inseparable from the other, for it is both the end and the beginning. The last tattered page closes on a finished volume, and a new and cleaner one opens. The old school will miss you, but the old one's loss is the new one's gain. My eyes grow a bit misty as I say farewell. Farewell, my dear girls! May God bless you and keep you ever close to His side. May He shield you from harm, comfort you in sorrow, and smile upon your joys and successes. Your principal and always your friend, SISTER M. THEODOLINDA ,,1 ,L x. -. x . 1 1 ,, , wa' . nm: f .AL R.
