HAROLD H. STEPHENSON Dr. Stephenson’s secretary, Machiko Kimura, penetrates the Inner Sanctum to take a dictation. College education today is a serious concern for all—the layman, the professional edu¬ cator, and the student. With each passing day the news releases and reports remind us of the grim truth contained in the statement by H. G. Wells that “Civilization is a race be¬ tween education and catastrophe.” I believe world peace and the survival of mankind may depend largely upon the way in which we educate the citizens and leaders of tomorrow. Certainly the need for highly-trained manpower, broadly educated persons, informed citi¬ zens, and enlightened l eaders is greater than ever before. We have tried to give you the kind of education that will help you to face the future with hope and courage and that will enable you to make your best contribution to your state, your nation, and the world. Congratulations and best wishes for continued success! HAROLD H. STEPHENSON President I: AND DEANS MR. JACK MAUGER MR. RUSSELL C. AZZARA MR. RALPH KENDALL DR.
