THE 1947 EDITION of the SACRAMENTO COLLEGE YEARBOOK THE PIONEER Co-editors BOB YOUNG WAYNE FONG Sports Editor BILL LOTHROP Business Manager TONI MAMMOLITI Sales Manager CLARENCE STEPHAN Publicity NINA STASSI Advisor DWIGHT MITCHELL Photographers GABBY GERHAUSER CLAUDE R. It will show us as we are now and cloud our hearts and eyes with the memories of school days that we will cling to forever. Those of us, who have worked to make this, the 1947 edition of the Pioneer, hope that we have been able to pack between its covers a representation of the life and times of Sacramento College for this year. We hope that this book will bring to all who gaze upon its pages in time to come, enjoyment of the fullest degree, though it be laughter or perhaps sentimental tears. THE EDITORS AND STAFF. It is to the returned veterans of the past conflict who now pursue their studies here in preparation to guiding the world of tomorrow that this book is dedi¬ cated. The officers are elected each semester by the student body. Last Fall under the guidance of President Ralph Struhs and Vice- Presidents Toni Mammoliti and Bob Wright, such objectives as the institution of a Student Union were achieved. During this Spring, headed by Leo O’Connor, president; Barbara Wood and Kennie Cayocca, vice-presidents, Sacramento College has done considerable work in favor of the four-yea r college proposal and has continued the building of an excellent reputation as an institution of lower division learning. Coupled closely with the offices of student body president and vice-presidents are the offices of the cabinet members and the offices of senators and precinct officers. This combination, president, vice-presidents, cabinet, senate, and precinct officers, comprises the student body government which is elected and appointed semesterly to guide the student body of Sacramento College. They can not ignore or escape it. Briefly, the dilemma is in the need for reconciling scientific behavior with social behavior, creating a civilization and culture in which scientific man and moral man can live together in harmony assuring community welfare and individual well-being. College graduates can help by pointing out that science alone cannot solve all the problems of man. The conviction which now prevails that the world can be made progressively better only by the application of scientific methods is being proved erroneous by our actual experiences. It is clear that peace or conflict may be traced back to morality. The moral attitude which brings peace with its benefits or conflict with its ills is the product of right or wrong human relationships. College graduates should emphasize the fact that the means by which we live will be deter¬ mined by the efforts of scientific man and the ends for which we live will depend upon the char¬ acter of the efforts of moral man. If we hope to build a better world, these efforts must be made harmonious and must be directed towards the development in moral man of a socially bneficial behavior in order to assure right human relationships. Only in such manner can the present dilemma be annulled; and the sound thinking of college graduates can hasten the annulment. (MminL Jthaiiim. Dr. Henry T. Tyler, Vice President. Miss Belle Cooledge, Vice-President and Dean of Women. To Sacramento College Students — My years with you have been rich in experience and joyful in association. I shall always rejoice in the success of every student. My heart will he with you in the greater years ahead; so, I shall not say “Farewell,” but “Au Revoir.” — Belle Cooledge. m (t. to b.) Barbara Rowley and Louie Romiti ruled in gracious splendor over their mythical kingdom on the planet Kohmar when the Sacramento College Art League presented the 21st annual Art Ball on November 8, 1946, in the Memorial Auditorium. The theme was “Karnival on Kohmar’’ and told the story of life on the far-away planet whose people are masters of carnival and festival entertainment. High points of the colorful presentation were the arrival of the King by rocket ship and the coronation of the queen-elect following her ascent from the path of a star. Over two hundred and fifty people, faculty and students, cooperated to make this Art Ball the crowning entertainment event of the year. djiL (BalL (, clockwise ) The chorus in action.
