Dr. Nicholas Ricciardi, President of Sacramento College, has a friendly chat with Marjorie Torres, a member of the class of ' 44 PIONEERING FOR A HETTER TOMORROW A combat pilot writes, " History resounds with the illustrious names of those who have given all. . . . The life of a man can only be justified by the measure of his sacrifice. " Another member of the armed forces wrote me recently as follows: " I believe that what we are fighting for is right and just in the eyes of God. Also, the thought of what it would mean if we were to lose this war and what it stands for further spurs me on. " These thoughts represent the thinking of pioneers in combat. Men, and women, too, whose belief in what is right and just and sanctioned by the Supreme Being fits them for unselfish service and directs their efforts toward making the world better for tomorrow. The pioneers of yesterday with unselfish spirit account for a better today. The pioneers of today are building a better tomorrow. Pioneering is needed on the home front as well as in combat. On the military front the pioneer is exemplary and inspiring. Pioneers at home must p unite in arduous support of those in action against the enemy and must provide the right kind of leadership in every walk of life. Such leadership must bring about unification. Pioneering has emphasized always that man is body, mind and soul. What is done with the body depends on physical education. The mind develops as we educate the intellect and the soul expresses itself through the education of the conscience. The most potent influence in life today is that which flows from the education of the conscience. Unification will come, peoples will act unitedly only when all have been educated physic¬ ally, intellectually and spiritually. The program of the future in the College must include these three aspects. Graduates should assume the responsibility of pioneering so as to bring about proper emphasis in every walk of life with respect to the importance of acting in terms of what is good for the individual, for the community, for the nation and for a better world tomorrow. ] J licUo-loi Qiccia idi
