THE SACRAMENTO sromf ' The USS SACRAMENTO IAOE-12 was commissioned in 1.964 and is the third slip gf the fleet to bear the name. The first was a steam propelled wooden sloop-oPwar con fmis- A sioned in 1865: the second, a gun boat IPG-192 was commissioned in 1914. ' r The USS SACRAMENTO IAOE-11 combines the functions of three logistic support, .hips in one hull - fleet oiler IAOI, ammunition ship IAE1, and refrigerated stores ship IAHSI, H As an oiler IAOI, Sacramento carries over seven and a half million gallons of mlyrine distillate propulsion fuel IDFMl and jet fuel UPEI. She carries enough fuel to go around 3 the world four times without stopping. As a refrigeration ship IAFSQ, Sacramento can cany over one thousand tons of froren, chilled, and diy food items. As an ammunition ship IAEI, the Sacramento can replenish the entire ordnance re- quirements of an aircraft carrier in three to four hours. She also carries a complete assort- ment of missiles and ammunition for cruisers, destroyers and frigates with a capacity of approximately sur-thousand tons fully loaded. Sacramento is a fast combat support ship assigned to operate with strike forces neces- sitating fast handling of cargo. Elevators, package con ve yors, fork trucks, and sophisticated automatic cargo equipment ha ve provided rapid transfer of materials from Sacramento to her customers. Two Boeing CH-46 jet turbine helicopters add another dimension to Sa- cramento 's ability to transfer freight, mail, personnel, provisions, and ammunition. Sa- cramento's motto is: READY FOR SERVICE. k I I J If-4 , M Q .57
