Jones was born in Seattle, Washington in De- cember 1952. He graduated Hom Centralia High School in Centralia, Wash- ington and continued his education at the University of Washington where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned an Ensign on September 2, 1975. CDR Jones' initial sea assignment was on USS VANCOUVER ILPD 21, homeported in San Diego, California.
