This year the F.H.A. girls sold candy and apples once a week after school. Some of the money raised was sent to U.N.E.S.C.O. The annual formal dance took place on December 12. The girls decided to be real fancy, so theyhired EJ. Eaton's band from Early. The dance was a huge success. F.H.A. also sponsored in- formal parties and educational films. The girls attended the district con- vention at Des Moines. This club is under the direction of Miss Hermanson. ,xii Nr wr 5,s? L2 1? ' e' Shad le, Sandra Bihrer, .,,,. N.. Although these musicians arise in the mid- dle of the night Q8 o'clock A.M. to be exact, to grope their way to school, they still end up producing fine music. These energetic Maestros are capable of playing everything from popular tunes to long-hair overtures. They also strut their stuff between halves of home football games. Personnel of the marching and concert bands is substantially the same. Students who participate in band really know what it means to be busy . Last fall the marching band participated in the marching band con- test held in Sac City, receiving a division two rating. In January, the concert band appear- ed in the annual home concert. Sac City High Schoo1's athletic fu- ture took on a rosy hue during the pre- sent school year as large and enthusi- astic junior-high squads worked out un- er Coach Dick Camp. Two football squads played a sche- dule of games-- a ninth-grade squad and a combined seventh-eighth grade team. The latter group compiled a re- markable record-- being undefeated, r ,YA A untied, and unscored-upon. Basketball teams, organized on the same set-up, had very successful sea- sons. The neophyte athletes absorbed some excellent coaching and devoted much time to the mastery of fundamen- tals which should pay dividends when they step into varsity roles a few years hence. - V lt lf-V '-gh-sf' Sac Indians in Action , ...QT B' Glr s Athletics Grrls' athlet1cs act1v1t1es durmg the 1953 54 school year featured a very ex tensrve program of 1nd1v1dua1 and team sports Under the drrectlon of M1ss Florme grrlathletes of S C H S settled school champronshrps 1n hockey and basketball Touch football was played rn the fall and volleyball was played dur1ng the wmter but no champ1onsh1ps were rnvolved Gym class champronshrps were settled 1n badm1nton shuffleboard pmg pong and other games Sw1mm1ng and phasrs rn the program of act1v1ty Stress was placed upon physrcal ed ucatron and recreatron Competrtron was l1m1ted to groups w1th1n the Sac Clty H1gh Qchool and 1nvo1ved wrdespread partxcr pat1on 1n g1r1s' athlet1cs aCt1V1t1CS fb?
