However long or short, the journey will be only as successful as we endeavor to make it. The first eighteen years of this journey have led us through our initial educative period. As we look back over these years we find that most of our travels have been over fairly smooth roads. These have been happy, carefree days. We sincerely hope that wherever your road of life may lead you it will be a happy and successful one. We also hope that in the years to come,as you glance-through these pages, vou will be able to retrace your footsteps with your friends and re-live your high school days. The office secretaries see to it that we get our make up slips, our report cards, our transcripts of grades. They are there to serve our wants whether it be for scotch tape, paper clips, paper, stamps, etc. Besides these little duties they handle all of the secretarial work at both buildings. Out school buildings are something we are justly proud of. However, if it weren'tfor the untiring efforts of the custodians we probably could not make that statement. They are constantly on the job to keep the buildings clean, neat and attractive. It would be a long day without the forty-five minute noon hour. And our favorite pastime is feeding our faces. Thanks to the cooks, those noon lunches help to stop the pangs of hunger and hold us over until after school. - i f 'f M, f ff-wraf ,ii- -L i - f iff X ohikx , SW IUJN Q. Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service, these are the four things that members of this organiza- tion must have to be elected to this society. Furthermore, members must maintain these personal traits to be wor- thy of their membership in National Honor Society. The assembly to initiate new members was held March 19. At this assembly nine new members were initiated. These students were James King, Jean Pullen, Bonnie Rodgers, Donald Faehn, Pattie Freeman, Sally Wayt, William Rehder, Shirley Schug, and Lou Rae McCrea. No, not quiteg although We may sometimes sound like it. Despite the clowning around by this Senior group during fifth period each day much work was accomplished. These hard working, eager beavers, did everything from sticking their foot in someone's door trying to sell ads to leaving notes of advice on the board for Miss Castle's sixth hour American History class. These unsung heroines serve each and everyone of us from early morning until late afternoon each school day. They not only check out books, but they have to track down the Sac Sun, keep the card files straight, post notices on the bulletin board, and as Miss Howe, their sponsor, says, they even check books in. Sometimes the long assignments the teachers gave turned out more work for the Librarians than for the students. It was always so much easier to have these helpful gals find the material for us. The football squad of 1952 was a team of spirit and determination. It was composed mostly of boys who averaged from ten to twenty pounds less than their opponents. But this team ended the season with the best record Sac City has had for many years. The lone loss of the year was a by a single touchdown to a very strong Jefferson team. The boys came back with an eye for victory and won the remainder of their games. At the end of the season they were honored by being ranked tenth team in the State of Iowa. They were further honored when Ray Pierson was elected to the DES MOINES REGISTER'S All-state fourth team. Coaches Halford and Hermannand the team of 1952 are to be con- gratulated. Coach Dewey Halford Assistant Coach George Hermann 460- 'U ,,,, .gi 'V EDDIE ROBSON It looked pretty dark to the followers of the basketball squad after the first few games of the season, for the In- dians were slow in getting started. A slow start was all though, for they really surprised many of the teams which had beaten them in their first en- counters. By gaining revenge over Carroll, Jefferson and Harlan they finished the season close on the heels of the con- ference leaders and finished the season with a 11 won, 7 lost record. Probably the greatest thrill of the season was the Indians surprise victory over Eagle Grove in a double overtime COntSSt. Eagle Grove was considered very strong in the Northwest but the scrapping warriors surprised them with their point producing and the outcome was the high scor- ing contest of 78-76. The Indians had the misfortune of meeting an excellent Odebolt team in their first appearance in the tournaments. Odebolt's skill coupled with a cold night for the local boys set them down in defeat and finished the season. Sanrio Under the able direction of a new coach, Mr. Richard Camp, the Papooses made a fine showing in all the sports in which they par- ticipated. The varsity teams of the future come from these junior high teams and there seems to be some pretty promising prospects for several years to come. One thing very noticeable this year was the way in which each boy really put forth honest effort to play his hardest. Mr. Camp kept the boys busy all of the practices and the dividends showed in the amount of improvement they made during the year. Good luck in the future to the Papooses. MR.
