In addition to active participation in Texas Special Olympics the class has many pre-vocational projects. Each year the students paint, decorate, and sell ceramic Christmas ornaments. This year the students went Christmas shopping for their families with the money they earned. They also supply a local wholesale florist with rolled newspapers to pack flowers in for shipment. It matters not if we may fail or if we should be beat. But what counts most of all is how, we weather our defeat, for often when the game is lost, the gain is greater still, if we can take it with a smile, we're bound to climb the hill, defeat is but a prelude to, another chance to try, each loss can be a step- pingstone, to places that are high, the loser who can learn a bit, and profit by his loss, then have the faith to try again, is bound to get across, and so it is we all must take, the bitter with the sweet, for what counts most of all is if, we're gallant in defeat! me, please. These athletes had a great desire to be a Champion. The desire to win and a desire to prepare to win are important ingredients to being a Champion. Our athletes exemplified the philosophy of the Sabine High School Basketball Program in that they put their lives first and remembered that all their blessings and talents came from the Lord. They realized that their talents were God-given and they were humble. They knew that Fame was man-given and they were thankful, and they real- ized that conceit is self-given and they were careful. We stress with our players that ability may get you to the top, but that it takes character and pride to keep you there. Pride is the strongest motivating force in the world and this group of young men had as much pride as any team l've ever seen. Our team Motto We will pay the Champions price was adhered to by our team and this is the reason they became the Pride of East Texas and a TRUE CHAMPION.
