Kayettes is a service organization designed to provide training in youth leadership that will develop the essential and basic elements of good citizenship for each high school girl. It is sponsored by the Kansas Association for Youth. The girls complete projects for World, National, Community and School service. As this years national project, they sold Tootsie Roll bank's for the National Kidney Founda- tion. The ultimate goal is to receive points for an award given at regional conference. This year the group received their 2000-point award at Highland. As a money-making pro- ject, the girls sold Christmas greenery to help finance the Valentine's Dance, which they sponsor annually. 24

Debate This year's debate topic was Resolved: That the federal govern- ment should adopt a comprehensive program to regulate the health care system in the United States.'' Specific cases ranged from man- datory innoculations for school-age children to mandatory fire alarms in homes. Four debaters attended the regional debate tournament this year. They were Robin Figgs, Martin Mishler, Cheryl Campbell, and Robin Brown, all second-year debaters. Robin Figgs, one of a four-member squad to attend the regional debate tournament at Washburn University, is cross-examined by his opponent during a practice round.
