Nineteen Hundred And Seventy Four — Seventy Five BLUEJAY Published By — The Journalism Five Class Sabetha Senior High School Sabetha, Kansas Index Great appreciation is extended to Joyce Sibold, the artist of our cover design. A sounding bell warned new faces of a year just begun as the air conditioner began its task. Its job was made easier as President Ford asked the American people to cut down on the use of energy due to an energy shortage. A great battle took place as the new students learned about the stubbomess of combination lockers. Cleated shoes put a football team into motion nicking the goal post as the chilled autumn responded. Cool weather gave way to a Thanksgiving snowstorm. What next??? Santa, with well-developed vocal cords, visited S.H. S. to present a pack of toys to the basket- ball boys. A season of giving brought much enthusiasm and An Old English Christmas Dance . January left much snow, many sniffles, and a new govenor for Kan- sas, Governor Bob Bennett. The winterish weather gave the cooks' simmering chili a pleasing aroma as chow time grew closer. As winter came to an end, the bas- ketball court became filled with silence. Spring opened as dandelions blossomed on the green lawn, the birds returned to the flagpole, and the hands off policy still prevailed. Spring music contests creat- ed many headaches, but the outcome proved rewarding. Excitement was on the rampage as the year grew to an end. Each student ended the year in his own way. Some moved a tassel and carried a diploma, while others carried a report card labeled next year's Junior or Senior . All were ready and willing to give the halls of SHS a rest. .. 2 3 Christmas time at last! Behind that beard is a Mr. Shelton! Classroom procedures 4 Time runs out! These teams debated 9 straight one-hour rounds (with no substitutes which larger schools had). The grueling schedule was rough, especially for first year debaters, battling the ten other schools who had entered their experienced debaters, and substitutes. Regional Debaters - L TO R: J. Allen, M. Kirk, K. Marti, R. Allen. Sabetha High School offered Debate as a one-year course for the first time in thirty years. Ten students made up 5 two-man teams which participated in eight debate tournaments during first semester. The students debated the national topic: Resolved: the United States should significantly change the method of se- lecting Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates. Each team was expected to debate 5-9 rounds—al- ternating between the affirmative and negative side of the issue. Three of the tournaments were for first year debaters only, while the other five were for experi- ence. The first year debaters ended the year with an excellent record of 24-18. In the final results, Sabetha's four man team placed fifth. As negative team, Jeff and Mary placed third in two- man team points. 54 Cheerleaders A-Team BOTTOM: Donna Fenton. Only a few years ago it was a concern of society to prepare young people to take their station in life. That life was concerned with individual families, local city, county and state government. The greatest concern was our beloved United States. No--I am not ready to imply that we no longer need to be con- cerned about ourselves, our neighbors, and the United States. I do want to stress the importance of living the good life within acceptable limits of our social order. In addition, your genera- tion must consider a life on a world-wide basis. It is my desire that your education in the Sabetha schools will have prepared you to live within the world-wide society. My very best wishes to each of you. J.A. Cleavinger Superintendent Mr. Cleavinger CLASS OF 1975 I sincerely hope that your learning years at Sabetha High School, along with the many valuable lessons of home and church, will provide a basis for a rich and satisfying life. Congratulations to you on your many accomplishments and good luck to each of you as you leave Sabetha High School. Sincerely, iV- Von C. We're scared; we're happy; two in one they say, In our caps and gowns of synthetic, it's graduation day. Some are laughing; others begin to cry, We look and see so many friends we met at Sabetha High. But the longer we look, the more we realize, The carpets and hallways vanish right before our eyes. Today becomes yesterday, a new life is begun, With memories of problems, good times, and fun. But behind us we leave caps and gowns of blue, A mystery lies in store for us, so much to try and do. Good luck and peace be with you, dwellers of Sabetha High, We find in beginning, we're forced to say goodbye. Seniors '75 KEIM TRANSPORTATION SUMMER’S IGA INC.
