The Jay-Jays started off the year by sponsoring the Homecoming half-time and the Homecoming Dance. Twilight Stroll in Autumn was the theme for the dance. Later on they were in charge of the Hog Calling Con- test at the Kayette Kamival. After the Kayette Clean-up the Jay-Jays sponsored a sock hop. The Jay-Jays were represented at every football and basketball game this year. Kayettes is designed to provide training in leadership that will develop the essential elements of good citizenship for each girl. Through Kayettes the girls learn to work and play together in harmony. Its purpose is to help stu- dents realize potentialities and responsibilities as citizens in a democracy, the satisfaction that comes from par- ticipation on wholesome recreation, and the joy of broadening and deepening their interests through service to their school, their community, and their world. Membership is available to all girls and 97% of the girls in SHS belonged. Activities of the year included: Big and Little Sister Party; Collection for 6 drives; Selling holly, magazines and mums; Christmas Dance; Caroling Party; Twirp Dance; Powderpuff Basketball Game; Heart Sisters; School Clean-up; City Hall Clean-up; Mother-Laughter Banquet; Senior G Faculty Breakfast; Nigeria Relief; Kayette Carnival; Kayette Girl of the 6 weeks; and having Miss Wanda May Vinson as speaker.
