i 0? ieouwict January to December, We’ll have these MOMENTS TO REMEMBER The senior sneak when we painted the town, The Prom with girls in lovely gowns, We'll have these MOMENTS TO REMEMBER. The quiet classes, the noisy halls, The faithful yelling of the football calls. We'll have these MOMENTS TO REMEMBER. When seniors turn to college And horseplay disappears, The excitement we were glad to share Will echo thru the years. When other nights and other days May find us gone our separate ways, We'll have these MOMENTS TO REMEMBER. And after all is said and done, We can't forget 'cause it was such fun We'll have these MOMENTS TO REMEMBER dJtSkr ecUc tt i Lewis Johnson, head of the Sabetha High School music department, came to Sabetha in 1950, and during the years has become a favorite of his students. Year after year he has skillfully guided the Sabetha Music Department to envied renown in Northeastern Kansas. His excellence as an inspiring and pa- tient teacher in both music and the classroom has brought forth the best in his students. Leading the Junior Jays were three first year cheerleaders; junior, Miriam Aberle; senior, Joan Humphrey; and senior, Sue Ann Wertenberger. Clad in blue and white uniforms, frozen toes, rain-drenched clothes, and long bus rides to away games - that was our pep club this year. Each year approximately 600 high school juniors journey to West Wichita High to spend a week running a simulated state gov- ernment. The first part of the week is spent in campaigning and electing government offi- cials. The latter part of the week is spent in actually running the government. Last year Steve Brammer, Charles Baskett, and Gordon Snyder were delegates to Boys' State. In the picture above, they are shown orientating Lanny Carpenter, this year's delegate. Sua Coevex State Every year the American Legion Auxiliary of Sabetha sends one girl to Girls' State. Diane Grimm attended Girls' State in 1960, and this year Sherrill Min- neman has been chosen to go. Girls are chosen on the basis of scholarship, leader- ship, and personality. Girls from all over Kansas go to Lawrence for one week to learn and get a better understanding of our democratic government. They run for state, county, and town offices just like real government in action. Girls' State was created in the interest of instilling into girls the importance of taking an ac- tive part in governmental affairs.
