Basketball As the 1955-56 Basketball season came to a close, the Sabetha Blue Jays had won six games and lost thirteen. In conference play we did not fare so well, having won one and lost seven for a , 173 percentage and cellar position. Although the won and lost records were not too impressive, every game proved to be an exciting one and provided many thrills for the home rooters. Many of the games were lost by very few points and two were won in the same manner, so all in all we really enjoyed the past season. The Blue Jays played in two tournaments during the season. The team won a second place trophy in the Christmas tournament which included Sabetha, Seneca, Centralia and Wetmore. Seneca was defeated by Sabetha, who in turn was beaten by Centralia. Centralia was first, Sabetha Second, and Wetmore third. Sabetha won its only conference game of the year in the first meeting with Troy. All other conference teams defeated Sabetha twice with the exception of Hiawatha who twice performed the feat in conferen e play and once in the District Tournament. Hiawatha was the favorite to win the District Tournament which was held in our gym and did just that. In the first round Sabetha defeated Maur Hill and Effingham defeated Holton giving both conference teams advancement to the semi-finals. Marysville won over Effingham and Hiawatha over Sabetha in the second round. Hiawatha de- feated Marysville for first place leaving secoftd place to Marysville. Effingham de- feated Sabetha for third place and left the Jays with fourth. So as the 1955-56 season became history, all eyes looked toward the future 1956-57 season with high hopes for a championship team and proudly salute the boys who played their last games as Blue Jays.
