On the Stroke of Midnight - In the lonely, ivy-covered brick mansion perched on the top of a high hill, a light was bravely gleaming through the growing dusk. Two excited girls stood framed in the light of the open door. 'Telegram tor youj M1ss,n announced the messenger who s had just plodded up from the village through the rain. 'Are you a new messenger boy?' the taller of the , girls asked. 'I can't recall having seen you betore.' I 'Yesy Miss, I'm new, Good night,' and he walked off abruptly, leaving the two girls staring after him. honing old. 1sn't ne?' muttered the other ot the' girls. Then, impatiently, 'What's it say?' . ' 'Come on. in and shut the dcor,' responded velore.' Joan again pressed to know what was on the mysterious paper.
