Letter For some, the years here have been atrial and a burden as they anxiously await graduation and the opportunities ahead. But for most of us, these years have been an adventure, a challenge, an experience that we will carry with us forever. The annual staff has made many changes in the 1965 RAM. We have tried to capture for you a few of the pictures, words, and ideas, that might aid you in re- calling happy moments of past school days at S 85 S. Many people have contributed to the production of this annual--the faculty, the many individuals and businesses who bought ads, and the annual staff members who gave of their time to help make this annual. But we owe our greatest debt of gratitude to our sponsor, Mrs. Knape. Without her diligent efforts, this annual would not have been possible. I appreciate the opportunity that I have had in serving the school as editor of the 1965 RAM. It is my sincere hope that this annual will be one of your most cherished possessions. Q02-E.. EDITOR Some people ask, Why do you have a dedication page? The answer is that there are many people like Mr. Manning who do so much and receive so little recog- nition for it. Yes, we admit that most people in the communities of Southmayd and Sadler realize that in the past five years he has coached the girls' basketball team to three district championships and one bi-district championship. But do they know that he has given his time unselfishly as a class sponsor? Do they know the extra effort he has expended in his duties as principal to work out students' problems? These are only a fraction of the things we could say about Mr. Manning. On behalf of the entire student body, we wish to express our genuine appreciation to Mr. Manning for the example he has set for us and for the understanding he has given us. The Annual Staff XX 1 1 I i - ADMINISTRATION J. A. Laughlin R. G. Schmidt B. M. Conaway VICE PRESIDENT PRESIDENT SECRETARY Board of Education LEFT TO RIGHT: J, W. Carney, B. I. Patterson, Francis Ray Hightower, Grant Schmidt, Boyd Conaway, Emmitt Earl, Albert Laughlin. Superintendentis Message 1 S UPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS ARTHUR A. BOYLE B.A. Degree Ouachita Baptist College M.A. Degree East Texas State College To the Student Body, to the Patrons and Faculty Members of the S 8: S Consolidated School District: Let me say thank you for the cooperation and help given during the school year which has just closed. This has been another pleasant and profitable year, and you as students, patrons and faculty members are certainly to be commended for making it a success. Let us always be aware of the importance of education and continue to work cooperatively in this worthy enterprise. We appreciate this fine yearbook and the work done by Mrs. Knape and the annual staff. May this book be a source of joy for you in later years. Superintendent of Schools Sincerely, Arthur A. Boyle KENNETH MANNING High School Principal To the Students: The end of school always brings the same ques- tion to my mind year after year. Was all ac- complished that could have been? This question probably comes to the attention of people in all walks of life. We who are connected with the schools, however, are unique inasmuch as we are able, so to speak, to start all over every year. When we ask ourselves the question mentioned above and arrive at our conclusions, we can vow to correct our weaknesses and take full advantage of our strong points next year. To the students who will be back atS 8a S next September, I would offer this advice: Evaluate yourself and vow to put everything you have into your school work. To the graduating class of 1965, lextend my congratulations and wish you every success in life. To the Students: It has been said that s-1:1-gg-es-sn in life is directly related to our many school experiences. With this in mind, it has been our desire and aim all year to instill in you the proper and correct principles of life. May these portions of knowledge be always clear in your mind. With God as your guide, may the decisions you make throughout life be as clear as this pictorial record. ROYCE SAMPLES Elementary Principal FACULTY Elementary Faculty ANNIE CUMMING B. A. , AUSTIN C.
