WILLIAMS 72 A group of girls in friendship hound, love and happiness have been founded. Theta Alpha Lambda is the name ihey choose. The conception of Thalians began as a dream in the minds of a few girls in the fall of 1965. Other girls became interested in a new sorority and with these girls and great hopes Theta Alpha Lambda was begun. We started our climb to recognition at the beginning of second semester last year during which time we were on inactive probation. In April we were recognized as a Women ' s Organization and as a result we operated on an active probation basis. It was during this lime that we escorted children from the children ' s home to the science fair. On April 10, 1966 we held our very first rush party called Mums the Word . Upon returning to campus in September we took a trip to Twin Valleys to finish any remaining organizational problems. On September 27. 1966 we were recognized as Theta Alpha Lambda Sorority. After recognition we settled down to rushing and the excitement of our first pledge class, we also engaged in various activities such as our Homecoming float The Start which we felt to be appropriate since we ourselves had just started. Sigma Tau Sigma helped us to make our first inter-frat weekend a success and this was followed by weekends with Phi Alpha Nu, and Delta Kappa Delta. Our leaf rake which helped us to donate money to the Community Chest was most enjoyable as was the Christmas caroling done at the local hospitals. For Winter Weekend our snow sculpture was Rip Van Winkle . In looking back at our first year as a sorority we therefore feel that it has been both successful and rewarding. PHI KA PPA CHI K ALLEN D. President of S.U.N. Y., Clio broke all formal ties with its other chap- ters and became local. Phi Kappa Chi Sorority offers to its mem- bers the opportunity to build strong friendships based on loyalty, trust, and understanding, and likewise, to instill in them a feeling of social responsibility. The sisters of Clio have spent a busy year working with, and for. others. We once again started the year early with an avid participa- tion in the Orientation Committee. During the fall, the sorority contributed to the social life on campus through its Rush Parties. September and October saw the Clios busy in their prepa- rations for Homecoming, winning second prize for our red lobster. Besides the various social functions in which Clio participates with the other Greek fraternal organization on campus, they also do much for the betterment of the town and community. Along with their new pledges, the sorority sponsored a community project in December for the needy families in town. In January, they also worked together to plan a skating party for the Children s Home. Other weekends of the sorority include Win- ter Weekend, when we won third prize for our Betsy Ross. Interfratcrnity Weekend, and Par- ents Weekend. Rounding out a full year for the sisters of Clio is their Senior Breakfast in May. in which all graduating sisters are hon- ored. Thus, we bring to a close another busy year throughout which the sisters of Phi Kappa Chi have worked together in the true spirit of a sorority. ALPHA KAPPA P HI C. HILL C. YORSTON P. NESB1TT C. On April 4, 1892 the Grand Chapter of Alpha Kappa Phi was formed when the chapter al Geneseo united with groups from Oneonta and Frcdpnia. Later that year the IX ' lta Chapter was formed U Pittsburgh. This year Alpha Kappa Phi is proudly celebrating its 75th anniversary on Plattsburgh ' s campus. Because of legislation in 1954. state and national affiliations were severed but Ago was reassembled as a number of local organizations. The colors of the sorority decided upon were light blue, gold and white; a yellow rose and anchor were established as Sorority flower and symbol, re- spectively. The Ago ' s. as their members are commonly called, still maintain the Anne Carrol Memorial Fund which provide loan funds from which mem- bers may borrow. Alpha Kappa Phi uses its objectives as a guide in its functioning. The objectives include these: to establish cooperation and feeling of sisterhood among the members; to contribute social activities and to be of service to the college and the community; to be of help and to work with organizations of the college; and to encourage new ideas and interests among the members for the improvement of this organization, and for furthering of its given objec- tives. This year we started off our first weekend on campus with our annual Ago- TKB Welcome- Weekend Dance. Our Pizza Pre-Rush. our Broadway formal rush, bids and pledging all led to some new sisters. Our Christmas sing. Casino rush and Homecoming float added to our enjoyable winter. The Ago splash party and Interfrat weekend, the best ones yet, are still other things that we will remember. Lastly was parents ' weekend, our weekends with P.A.N, and at Twin Valleys, our Senior Dessert Hour saluting our graduating Seniors and of course our Winter weekend sculpture. Many tears mark our parting and there will always be so many shared memories but though some members leave they will not be forgotten and our bands of sisterhood will keep us close forever. 77 ALPHA DELTA THETA SMS S. In the I92() s, our records were destroyed in a fire that raged in Hawkins Hall and in these records much of our history was lost. In 1965 and 1966 our sorority won the Scholastic Cup and in 1966 an AD was given the first best dressed woman award on campus. Our intellectual and social character pro- motes friendship with life long bonds and the girls of lavender and white unite in a loyal cooperation with their sisters. The Sisters of A.D. are proud of our week- ends with the fraternities, Mother-Daughter weekend in the Spring, our annual Roaring 20 s weekend with the Beta s involving lots of gun fights, dancing and fun for all. our float for Homecoming, the cooperation and enjoyment of Interfrat weekend and our snow sculpture Greatness Through Education. Our aims and objectives are social, academic, intellectual and service. The Men of Beta ' represent a cross-section of individuals coming from all aspects of campus life. It is the application of their ideas which binds our fraternity into a closely knit brotherhood. Together, we strive to do our best. Participating in student activities is only one function of T.K.B. Academi- cally. Beta has won the scholastic cup fourteen out of sixteen times — last fall with a 2.701 cum. average. Service to the community has involved Beta in the collection for the Community Chest, decorating the Children ' s Ward at the local hospitals at Christmas time, caroling, blood donations, and more recently donating to the March of Dimes: We all live in a Yellow Submarine was the theme of our Homecoming Float. Our Snow Sculpture was entitled Gift of Our Heritage. We have had weekends with Clio and Thalians during the second semester. Just as our Spirit of Brotherhood has no end. our purpose as a fraternity and service to both the College and Community will continue in the years to come. SIGMA TAU SIGMA L. BARTON W. BEARDSLEE C. Sigma Tau Sigma began with close to twenty members and held its meetings in sundry places on the campus and immediate community. The Broth- ers came to the conclusion that they wanted to bring together those male students of di- versified backgrounds, having corresponding in- terests and common ambitions, in order to provide a Fraternity which, through Intellec- tual. Social, and Charitable activities, will have a beneficial effect upon the lives of the Broth- ers of this Fraternity, the College, and the Community. In the Fall of 1965. we went on probation under the rules of the Interfrat Council, to determine its readiness for full-fledged Greek- hood. On February 8, 1966, Sigma Tau was recognized as an official Greek organization, having all the rights and privileges thereof. Since that time, and before, through the pa- tient guidance of its advisors. Dr. Graham Trevaskis and Dr. Stuart McNair, the Frater- nity has become an integral part of the campus community, becoming involved in activities not only on the immediate campus, but in the community as well. Sigma Tau Sigma had first place float entitled Monarchs of the Deep in the Homecoming Parade. Our first Interfrat weekend was held with Clio, and Raising of the Flag at I wo Jima was the theme of our snow sculpture for Winter Weekend. We gave a Christmas Party at the Children ' s Home and distributed gifts to the children in the hospital. Money for the March of Dimes and Heart Fund was also collected. Painting the Community Chest Red Cross, a community project with the J.C. ' s and a party at the Chil- dren ' s Home with the children later as our guests at the Buffalo State Basketball Game all helped to make our year an exciting one. 85 PI ALPHA NU 1 RI YNOLDS A. In the Spring of 1965 we were rated second in academic stand- ings with other fraternities. We have also had two exchange students as honorary members from Viet Nam. Last year many of the Chapin concerts were sponsored by Phi Alpha Nu. We are also ac- tive in many sports including football, basket- ball, bowling, handball, swimming, softball and golf. Our activities are varied. Our Homecoming Float was Beany and Cecil and the Snow Sculpture theme was Our Pioneer Heritage . For Christmas we went caroling with AGO around the campus, and many of our members have donated blood at the hospitals and worked with children during community proj- ects. Weekends with Thalians. Athletic activities have always predominated, promoted and provided the opportunities for the achievement of these goals. For example, in the past five years, the D.K. football teams have remained undefeated, culminating their endeavors last year by winning the Intramural Sports Trophy. And further, in swimming, wrestling, basketball, soccer, and baseball, there are members working as elements of a developing team. However, athletics do not entirely represent the accomplishments or undertakings of the organization. Equally aligned with our athletic participation is our ability to socialize on weekends, which projects a second facade in fraternal life. Ask the Clio s who often joined us in our activities. Ask the AD ' s who lounged around with us in the sand during a fall beach party. Finally, we had our spring weekend with the Thalians. further harmonizing this new so- rority into the Greek community. Our halloween party with the orphans and our blood donations to area hospitals have fos- tered new relations for our college community. Our Homecoming weekend float. Flying Dutchman , constructed of energy and 4,000 painted, paper flowers, and our snow sculp- tured Liberty Bell, significant of the theme: This Land is Our I.and . were additives to the artistic competition of the college. The Inter- frat Weekend fused all Greeks into a contest of talent, ridiculousness, rivalry and delight. And finally, we inaugurated a new idea, that being. Father and Son Weekend, to augment our fraternal bonds. In reminiscence, what has this year been like for us? Rewarding, successful, victorious, un- precedented. 90 ATHLETICS 91 93 94 96 97 Ron Burdo John Decosse Paul Dingman Michael Healy Pal Masone Richard McDevitt Michael Perry Dale Slattery Dan Stone Ron Yoder Philip Beckeridge Michael Holland David Swan B.
