MOLLIE K. WILD Dr. Mollie K. Wild was a member of the Education Division of the faculty at SUC at Plattsburgh for twenty years. During this time. Dr. Wild ' s activities were not confined only to the teaching of education courses. She was very active in the New York State English Council and was a frequent contributor to its magazine, The English Record. She wrote many articles on creative writing in the elementary grades. Indeed, her life long in- terest was in the growth of children in creative imaginative expression. For this reason, her death has been a great loss, not only to the college and her profession, but also to school children everywhere. 6 IN MEMORIAM DR. GEORGE YOKUM In the years that Dr. George Yokum was at Pittsburgh, his musical ability became well- known. He shaped the Baccalaureate Service into its present form,- he organized the Lake- side Chorale,- he was co-director of a series of musical plays. But Dr. Yokum ' s influence went beyond music. To his students he imparted not only knowledge but the desire to search and the opportunity to further their individuality and to strive toward self-fulfillment. Who among his colleagues is not aware of his devotion to the spirit of free inquiry, of- his determination to speak out and say what he believed was in the best interest of the college community, regardless of whether or not his point of view was popular? Always he could be found in the forefront of those who were willing to experiment to see if there was not, perhaps, a better way. There is not a more fitting tribute to such a man than these the words of his friends. 7 With the growth at Plattsburgh, the job of administration has grown in com- plexity. Our administration has accepted the job and is performing its tasks to the utmost. It continues to meet the changing needs of a growing college with the foresight and skill which is indicative of the quality of the college leadership. Leroy A. Piccord Wjllord C. Flynl Alice K. With this increase in faculty members has come an increase of sparkling, new ideas. These ideas, combined with those already in exist- ence will aid Plattsburgh in growing to be one of the finest colleges in the State University system. .9 ; r 4 B B ■, l if I Dr. Anthony, N. Directing these presentations is Paul Gray. Last spring, The Footlighters brought Pittsburgh honor with their presentation of The Dream Play at the Yale Drama Festival. For their achievements, the Footlighters received the 1 963 Presidents Cup. This fall the Greek tragedy Medea was presented on the open stage. Further productions this year will be The Caucasian Chalk Circle and The Importance of Being Earnest. Again this year The Footlighters will have the honor to return to Yale to present The Chairs. I. V The Greeks ' activities on campus have become evident in the past few years. Everyone has enjoyed the various sorority-fraternity weekends and the rush parties and smokers. The Greeks have also grown in another way, how- ever. Each year, sororities and fraterni- ties add to their schedules many pro- jects of more than social value to college and community. Growth in this direction has helped the Greeks attain a respected position on campus and in the community. G FRONT ROW: A. Balson, L. Stewart, D. Foy, D. Herheim. BACK ROW: S. Aldous, P. Finnegon, B. It strives for unity and co-operation among the members. The sororities have representation in Sorority Council as the fraternities do in the Fraternal Council. Representatives of each of these councils compose the Interfraternal Council. Social, economic, and academic activities of the fraternities and sororities are regulated by the Interfraternal Council. These activities include rushing, bidding, pledg- ing, initiations, and weekends. In addition to governing, the Interfraternal Council sponsors a weekend in the spring. A candlelight sing by the fraternities and sororities and the Interfraternal dance high- light this weekend. As the campus grows, so do the fraternities and sororities. In their growth, increasing self-government is necessary. The Interfraternal Council, composed of students governing their own organizations, brings forth this ideal. 64 FRATERNITY COUNCIL FRONT ROW: D. Foy,- P. Finnegan; R. Yankowski. BACK ROW: G. Pres., T. Motthews, Pres.. R. Ellsworth, Treas., C. Mone, Sec. CLASS HISTORY We arrived on September 14, 1960, not knowing quite what to expect and somewhat apprehensive of the days and months between us and that far distant day four years thence. Nevertheless orientation was soon over and we were wrapped up in Freshman Week, with those darn sophomores making us carry books and signs, sing songs, and even clean the sidewalks with toothbrushes. Then came the Tennis Court Oath and Black Friday. No, we would ' never forgive those sophomores. They didn ' t give us our chance to pull them through the pond. By that time classes were in full swing and we were getting our first taste of higher education, and our first of many lessons in how to think. In November we organized as a class and elected Joe Baker as our first president, Under his guidance we sponsored the succeessful Freshman Dance — Mis- tletoe Melody. Then in February we built the toad stool as our entry in the snow sculpture contest. Last, but not least of our freshman memories was that infamous day at the city beach when the Sophomores honored us at the annual Freshman-Sophomore picnic. Eric Martinsen headed our sophomore year. That year we got our chance and for the second time in history, the sophomores pulled the freshmen through the pond. Our sophomore slump was given a rest when our Soiree — Syonora — had a record attendance. We ' ll never forget that leaky pond. That spring we stood out in the crowd with the arrival of those red class blazers. Al the half-woy mark we chose John DuBois to lead the class which was chiefly concerned with directing itself toward one week in April — Junior Week. We were advised that it was to be only a weekend but our number system proved to be extremely capable of overcoming that barrier. On Thursday, events cli- maxed when the unexpected, but not so unexpected, Lord Affair occurred. Repercussions? Yes! The next day was another not-supposed-to-be but was — sneak day. We ' ll never reveal what happened. Saturday night was Continental Carousel with Junior Prom Court, Queen Joanne Picirilli and King John DuBois followed by the Lettermen on Sunday. On Class Day, Eddie Dalmafa and her staff presented the Junior gift, the 1963 Cardinal. And somehow we managed to end the year with a bang when our new president, Tom Matthews, almost dropped out of sight in the red mantle, the symbol of the Senior Class. Although we were once again joined by our ever- popular nurses, student teaching and classes separated us, This year we concerned ourselves with planning for alumni organization and for June 7, 1964. Today is that day. Our fears and apprehensions of college days are gone and in their place are the friend- ships and memories of our alma mater and our Class of 1964. We won ' t forget. We can ' t; it is part of our lives. 137 Marjorie E.
