Curdinul nm State University Teachers College Plattsburgh Ilrilimlinn To light, in which we live and move and have our being: light which illuminates our minds and our hearts to meet the challenge of twentieth century life. Faculty For we lifilil nr cam lies from l heir torches. Dr. George W. It is indeed a tribute to the staff that this year ' s Cardinal has caught the spirit of brotherhood and scholarship which encourages each Plattsburgh student to l ecome all that he is capable of becoming. Essentially, the subject matter of the composition revolves around the fam- ily, the child, the nursery personnel and the architectural environment. Through- out the total composition emphasis has been placed on rollicking, rhythmic move- ment indicative of child growth. I I I I I I 115 Mrs. L. Guimond, Mrs. E. I aware, Mrs. N I- ' ncteau. Twin Valleys When we think of our lodge which lies in a beautiful valley of the Adirondack , we immediately recall a glowing fireplace, an evening of singing our favorite songs, toasted marshmallows, square dances, hikes and the other wonderful activities of camp life. Facilities at Twin Valleys include a dormitory, three Adirondack log lean- tos, tenting equipment, trails and a new two and one half acre lake which offers boating. Soon we hope Twin Valleys will have the long-awaited ski trails. Old Cham plain The Saranac curves swiftly down from mountains dark with pine, By night and moon its wooded slopes wi th silver birches shine. From North and South and from the West the land is split in twain. By brooks that speed the Saranac To old Champlain. And where the rush of waters blend with broad espanse of blue, Where Red-men, Frenchmen, Englishmen have kept a rendezvous, — Our Alma Mater lifts her head and beckons not in vain, For us to keep a rendezvous By old Champlain. From North and South and from the West our college draws her blood. Like brooks that join the Saranac to swell the foaming flood, We lose ourselves in service fine, one common goal attain, When we have kept that rendezvous, By old Champlain. Our Town Buildings and bridges do not make a town. A city is greater than its bricks anil mortar; It is greater than tower or palace, church or hall: Kflfl siCf A city ' s as great as the little people that live there. You know those people. How can [Plattsburgh] fall? 11!) Yuletinic Our traditional Christmas activities, both beautiful and spiritual, will always be a part of our college days which we shall never forget. The large tree that stands in the main lounge of the College Union provides perfect atmosphere for the im- pressive Christmas Tea and the annual Christmas party at the end of Good An- gel Week for the girls of Macdonough Hall. We always look forward to the de- licious Christmas dinner and the holiday entertainment. But foremost among the activities is the inspirational Nativity Pageant and Candlelight Service. ICO Winter Carnival Though the weather outside was fright- ful, our weekend was so delightful. For the first time on our campus a Winter Weekend was celebrated. It ' s success lay in the combined efforts of all the classes and many of the organizations. The high spot of the weekend was a Jazz Concert featuring Hobby Hackett. The program Saturday afternoon included a Home Economics Fashion Show, the crowning of the King and Queen and awards for snow sculpture. A large crowd attended the Sun ' n Sno Hall on Saturday evening. The ski trip to Whiteface Mountain ended a perfect weekend. C ' OMMITTKK: A. Kvcrlctli, L Jacobson, P. Baync, A. Klliot, J.
