The history that is known and best loved resides in the hearts and minds of those who live it. Each year the CARDINAL vividly captures the most meaningful record of that part of under- graduate life which in a large degree is outside the classroom. Yet for years on end, you will return again and again to it in warm introspection about the happiest years of your life. Each page captures a precious memory, an intimate association; in short, a portion of your undergraduate life. In this sense the CARDINAL becomes an indis- pensable document without which the historical account of this college would be grossly and drably incomplete. DEDICATION We, the class of 1954, dedicate this yearbook to you, the students of the State University at Plattsburgh, who through the years have contributed so much to its ideals and its development. Each of you as an individual has been able to fulfill many of the aims of this college, through association with professional clubs, class offices, extra- curricular activities and other important school functions. Even with your personal successes, however, you felt the need of working together to accomplish the goals you wished to attain. As you co operated with each other, these desired objectives were finally realized and could be more fully appreciated. Since it is to the students of our college that this yearbook is being dedicated, we find it fitting that our Cardinal should guide your hand through its pages. Let him serve as a constant reminder of your accomplishments. It is our hope that he will remain with you in the future as he has done throughout your college career — welcoming you as Freshmen and bidding farewell to you when you leave as your college days end. This is your story — for you, by you, and about you!
