The English Honor Society is the campus organization which ac- cepts as members those students who have achieved distinction in English studies by obtaining a 3.25 index in a minimum of thir- teen hours of English. The purposes of the society are to recognize scholarship and ex- cellence in English and to provide opportunities for informal facul- ty-student discussion of topics of interest within the area. KAPPA NIU EPSILON Kappa Mu Epsilon is the na- tional mathematics honor soci- ety. Two purposes of the group are to develop an interest in and an appreciation of mathe- matics from both a utilitarian and an esthetic viewpoint. Chap- ter meetings are usually highlighted by discussions of mathematical topics. To be ini- tiated into the local chapter, it is required that the student have an excellent academic rec- ord in mathematics and be above the college-wide average for all other subjects. EPSILON Pl TAU Twenty-fifth Anniversary Year Phi Chapter, Epsilon Pi Tau, the Internation- al Honorary Professional Fraternity in Industrial Arts and Industrial Vocational Education, this year marks its twenty-fifth year of service on the Oswego campus. Phi Chapter's forerunner was the Sheldon Forum lVlen's Honorary Society established in 1925. Students eligible for election must have a minimum cumulative index of 2.90 with a major in industrial arts. They must be juniors or must have spent at least three semesters on cam- pus and have shown evidence of leadership and good citizenship by actively participating in some college or community organizations. The Epsilon Omega Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi is the National Honor Society in Education which recognizes students of above-average ability. All juniors, majoring in education, are eligible if they have maintained a 3.00 overall in- dex and a B in all their education courses. The purpose of the society is to encourage high school professional, intellectual, and personal standards. Its members help to organize the annual Founder's Day Program, participate in service activities, and sponsor cultural events. SIGMA ZETA Sigma Zeta is the national science honorary society which proposes to furher interest in science. Membership in this society signifies outstanding achievements on the under- graduate level.
