SECOND Hax H Greenwood B Davy E Ames ROW: Coach Crowe, Manager D. Burger, D. Kubusa, D. Steele, D. Mill HOCKEY CLUB The Laker hockey club compiled a very impressive 13-4-1 record. This record is even more astounding when it is viewed in the light of the fact that this was the first year of intercollegiate hockey for Oswego State. The team, which consists primarily of freshman, started the season with a bang as they scored a total of fifty-four points in the first two games. The club is a member of the Finger Lakes Hockey League, which in- cludes eight teams. Thus far Oswego is in first place with a 11-1-1 league record and the icemen' hope to win their next two league games to become the new league champs. The highlight of the season appeared to be a private three-game rivalry with the St. Lawren- ce frosh, and, although all three games ended in defeat for the plucky Lakers, the games were real thrillers, like all the others, and greatly enjoyed by the new fans. The Lakers will remain a club for at least another year, but Coach Crowe and his boys will be playing a much stronger and demanding schedule next year.

FRESHIVIAN WRESTLING The yearling grapplers finished with a 10-O record, thanks to Paul Smith's forfeit of their 23-21 early win sea- son over the frosh. Paul Smith had used some ineligible men against the Oswego frosh while two of the Lakers failed to make weight. The Frosh showed tremendous strength in blanking two opponents 32-O and 41-O, a rarity in wrestling competition. Fred Jondreau finished the sea- son undefeated with a 10-O record and Brian McGann finished with nine wins and one draw, his draw coming at 130, two weight classes above his normal wrestling weight. Brian and Coleman McGann, no relation, led the team in match points scoring 43 apiece. Art Ziegler, a mid season entry, also compiled an impressive start in pinning all four opponents. This year's team is the best in the history of Oswego's frosh teams and will most certainly help next year to strengthen the varsity. FIRST ROW: D. Van Essendelft, Coach Edward Frey, L. McFarland. SECOND ROW: C. Chandler, A. Gadomski, T. Soeder, W. Keller, R. Smith, Manager, M. Ovios. VARSITY CROSS CDU NTRY The Laker Cross country team enjoyed one of its best seasons ever, and iticom- piled a record of eight wins for three loss- es. The seven-man squad defeated several teams without letting them score a point and thus gained the distinction of being known as a shut-out squad. The high point of the season was a fourth-place finish in a field of eighteen teams at the Canisus Invitational. The Cross country coach this year was Edward Frey. Coach Frey adopted the slo- gan Pay the Price as the goal for the squads, and consequently, his program stressed physical conditioning. This pro- gram, plus the determination and ability of the individual members of each squad, ac- counts for the impressively successful team that resulted. With only Captain David Van Essendelft graduating, the 1965 season should be an extremely successful one. The addition' of Rand Timmerman and this year's ,fine frosh group to the ranks of the returning varsity should make the 1965 team the strongest ever. 184
