Brown, R. - VARSITY BASEBALL FRESHIVIAN BASEBAL The fast action of the 1964 baseball team provided Oswego fans with exciting action throughout the season. Although Oswego had to relinquish its 1962 and 1963 SUNY Baseball Conference Cham- pionship Crown to Cortland, the Laker batmen placed second in Conference standing with a fine 10-2 record and overall 13-5 rec- ord. On their annual spring vacation trip to the NYC area the Lak- ers won a decisive victory over Adelphi College, who later became champions of the Knickerbocker Conference. Good, fielding and fine pitching provided one seven-game winning streak and five straight victories at the end of the season. In all, the Lakers made fifteen doubleplays, quite an accomplishment for a college team. Although baseball is p'rimarily a team sport, a lot does depend on the individual talents of each player. The Lakers were unusually fortunate in this respect. Shortstop Milton Brown lead in the team in both the field and at bat with a total of seventy-four hits and a comfortable low of six errors. He also maintained the highest bat- ting average, his being .365. Three other players on the team made the All- Conference team: Co-captain Chuck Stanek, OF, Matt Kupic, 2B, and Kevin Kimau, Pitcher. Honorable mention went to Milt Brown and Wayne Kenner. The Laker baseball yearlings finished the '63 season with an exciting last-inning victory over the R.l.T. frosh providing them with a record of three wins and five losses. Left-hander Dick Heidel pitched the victory, his third against two losses. Catcher Bob Heneka provided the Lak- ers with a strong bat all year averaging over two hits per game. Other frosh Lakers who will be making strong varsity bids this year include Dave Collins IF, Frank Campise IF, Bernie Full- er IB, Bob Perkins OF, and Lou Magnarelli OF and IF. 3 Oswego vs Cortland 13 6 Oswego vs Manlius 9 26 Oswego vs R.l.T. 1 3 Oswego vs Brockport 17 6 Oswego vs Manlius 3 O Oswego vs Cortland 8 4 Oswego vs Cortland 11 7 Oswego vs R.l.T. 6 L
