Intramurals at Oswego are recreational sports and activities promoted within the confines of the college and conducted on a voluntary basis. The intramural program, which is set up for the students, of the students, and by the stu- dents, is designed primarily to provide each student an opportunity to partici- pate in some form of supervised, or free play, team and individual sport Competition, regardless of whether or not the individual is a member of any other organization. Unquestionably, the social benefits of playing with and against hundreds of fellow students are just as valuable as the physical and mental benefits resulting from intercollegiate athletic activity. The year 1964-1965 showed a continued increase in overall participation and growth with over one thousand students taking an active part in the twenty- one diversified activities offered. Many of this number were repeaters in several activities, which would make the total number of individual participants fewer. Continuing in the effort to enrich the program, to have fun, and to meet new people, intramurals again sponsored, along with WAA, the very popular Co-ed Guys 8: Dolls volleyball league. Sixteen teams were organized among the Guys 8t Dolls living centers, sororities, fraternities, and townies. The play- ing teams were composed of three fellas and three girls. Hockey and speed skating were two other activities which were added to the sports' spectrum this year and they proved to be a success with six teams forming the hockey league and forty-two contestants entering the speed-skating competition. 163 IVIEN'S RECREATION ASSOCIATION

SECOND ROW: Mr. Glinski, R. Kohler, J. Dr. Nitardy. BLOCK O The Block O is a symbol of the men who have gained significance in sportsmanship and athletic ability. The Block O Club is comprised of men who have earned var- sity letters in intercollegiate athletics. Its major purpose is to promote intercollegiate athletics at Oswego by furthering student interest and supporting the program by such activ- ities as providing ushers for home athletic contests, spon- soring programs, pep rallies, dances, selling booster but- tons and organizing the annual homecoming parade. At the present time work is under way to contact alumni of Block O keeping them informed with newsletters and such, so that Oswego may gain their support in promoting the athletic program. The year's activities are culminated with an annual Block O dinner, at which time the athletes are honored by the presentation awards. 162
