Supervisors Aid Student Teachers At Oneonta student teaching occurs in the later phases of the teacher education program. A student-teaching position is provided once the student has sufficient background in the theoretical foundations of teaching and learn- ing. The student teaching experience provides opportunity for the student to begin developing his individual teaching style with accompanying diagnosis and analysis of his teaching performance. This study of teaching occurs largely in an eighteen county area and in the Bugbee Campus School. During the present year over one thousand public school teachers functioned as supervising teachers for Oneonta students who majored in elementary, early secondary, secondary and home economics edu- cation. The student teaching program at Oneonta recently received a citation for excellence by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. .,-dwfw ww.. ugbee Helps Prepare Teachers The best possible school for children and the best possible laboratoly for helping prepare future teachers are the basic puiposes of the Campus School. This chief justification for the existence of Bugbee is its contri- bution to the preparation of teachers. This is accomplished through observations, demonstrations, participation, student teaching supeiwfision, experimentation, and post-student teaching experience. The highly qualified staff, the excellent facilities. and the alert student body, provide a continuous laboratory that develops a readiness for teach- ing and an opportunity for college students to experience teaching activ- ities and participate effectively in the growth of children.
