HUNT Many changes came to Oneonta between July 1, 1933 and January 31, 1951. The campus was increased by the purchase of up- wards of seventy acres by tl1e City of Oneonta and the friends of the school. The Main Building was adapted to new uses and to a wider social life for the students. The Normal became a State Teachers College and in 1948 he- came a part of the newly organized State University of New York. There were new curricula in the prep- aration of teachers :for the elementary schools ,V the de- partment of home economics, the program of Graduate Studies, the specialization in early childhood education were added. The dormitory and the Student Union were built, the home economics building was begun. The library profited by a grant which Dr. Hunt secured from the Carnegie Corporation. The faculty was enlarged. Needs of individuals were not neglected. For example, we may point with pride to the operation of the hospitalization plan and the group fire insurance for students, both of which were pioneer ventures initiated by Dr. Hunt. His work for teacher education stretches far beyond Oneonta. He has served as Secretary- Treasurer of the American Association of Col- leges for Teacher Education and its predecessor organization since 1928. He was a prime mover in the biannual School for Executives f'i.e., for presidents of teachers collegesj. He attended Mrs. Hunt's interest in the students, indi- vidually and collec- tively, has shown it- self in many Ways. May we say a heart- tt felt Thank you, Mrs. Hunt. the first White House Conference and he has served on many committees of na- tional scope. In this State, he has been a member of the executive committee of the Association of Colleges and Univer- sities of the State of New York, and he was a member of the Dormitory Author- ity. ln Oneonta, he has been associated with many important civic projects. The editors of the ONEONTAN voice the feeling of the student body in sending to Dr. Hunt their best wishes to him in his cxtcndcd services to teacher education. if 22,4 , ...
