CWe recognize at a glance the kindergarten class room. A com- motion is heard off stage, which culminates in the entrance of the members of the Senior class, who drape themselves gracefully around the tables in the back of the room. The president rushes in, calls the meeting to order, gets the secretary's and treasurer's report over with. And now we are to witness a very important discussion.J President-The meeting is now open for business. Senior-I wish we could actually decide something about this Senior picnic. The one thing 1 am almost sure about is that we think we shall have it. I make the motion we do have a Senior party. fMotion goes through unanimouslyj Second Seniol'-When is it to be? First Senior-I move we have the picnic next Saturday. Third Senior-I second it. President-Any discussion? Fourth Senior-I don't see how it can be Saturday. The boys will be playing football. VVe can't have the party without them. Second Senior-Why can't we all go to the game and make that our party? Fifth Senior-It can't be done. Some of us go home for the Week- end that Saturday, who have been anxious to go to the picnic and they couldn't go, if we decided on Saturday. We must all be present if it is to be a get-acquainted party. Second Senior-That isn't showing much school spirit if they can't stay over one week-end to attend a game. Fifth Senior-But they have been planning that trip home for over three weeks. Besides, they can go to the other games. fThe motion is lost. A suitable date is finally decided upon after much heated discussion. The place is to be along the Genesee river, near the railroad station.J Second Senior-Now that's settled, what are we to eat? First Senior-I move we have pickles, and steak and rolls and coffee and grapes and- Wise Treasurer finterruptingl-I second that motion. CMotion carriedb CThe curtain goes down while they are still discussing the tax to be collectedj Scene II. Several years later. fWe see a crowded thoroughfare, evidently a large city. Why, of course! It is Main Street of Geneseo, for through the throng we can just discern Te1npleton's bus wending its gassy way towards Bank street. Two elderly ladies appear to be discussing this vehicle, for they gesture towards it excitedly. Let's listen in.J First Lady-It can't be possible, but yet it is. For don't you see the gas? Second Lady-It is the bus. Shall you ever forget our ride to Maple Beach Inn after the field day exercise? First Lady-At least I didn't forget it any moment of the next two days. 24 Second Lady-This old' town was the scene of many struggles and good times during that year of 1923 and 24. Do you recall our strictly Senior party along this picturesque Genesee river? F. L.-Our I-Ial1owe'en party too. Wasn't there some education teacher who delivered a very eloquent address at that time? It was quite touching. Vile were given nine o'clock permission that night too. S. L.-I can see us yet, rushing around for our Senior dance. That was an exciting week as I remember. The Normalian had to be attended to at the same time. It did seem an imposition to ask us to study. F. L.--I was quite indignant at the time. And then the photo- graphic days of tilted head and wistful grin. S. L.-And meeting superintendents! F. L.-But we lived through it and here we are back again in the old town. How diiferent it is since then. Would you believe- fThey pass out of hearing distance and we are left to our re- flections.J L.- wt jf I ' J ll X V iufl s . Many changes had occurred, due to many causes. A few of the faces were gone from our class, but of those who returned, what cannot be said? No longer were we dubbed green but somehow, in some myster- ious fashion, we had changed so much that we, too, enjoyed the novelty of dubbing the new-comers Freshies. We feel that they never had a chance to be blue, for they were too busy being green. Organizing early, we began what we hope will be a most successful year. Responsibility awaits us around the corner. The very interesting, as well as serious, proposition of student government is coming before us. It is for our class to launch this new work, if it begins now. Will we prove ourselves capable? We a1'e confident, Good times have not been lacking. We surprised the Freshmen early in the year when we gave a surprise dance in the gymnasium. The cooperation in the work We have already accomplished is only one of the manifest advantages we hold. Placing standards high and with ideals soaring, we feel that suc- cess awaits us. If failure lurk, we can but forge ahead and overcome the difficulties. Frfmces E. LR X f .1 FRESHMEN 31 Freshman Class 'Twas the thirteenth of September And all through the town The Freshmen were stirring And hurrying down The long hill that leads to Geneseo Normal To make their debut, their entrance so formal. In the words of the Great, We came, we saw, but as yet we are unable to finish such a wise and solemn utterance. We have yet to conquer. However, we have conquered in many ways. The Upper-classmen had their hearts set on giving us a good time. So, accordingly, under various pretences they succeeded in enticing a number of us into the gymnasium one memorable Wednesday night in September. What they failed to do to us would hardly be worth mentioning. What fun it is to be a freshman! There are brilliant stars ahead of usg stars to which we have hitched our wagon g and in time we will arrive. With proms, par- ties, and good times ahead, we can't help thinking how glad we are to be here. But gay times are not all that comprise our hopes and aspirations. We will strive to give our best to Genesee Normal and thereby gain in comradeship and all that benefits humanity. Again, we are glad to be here and hope that you are glad to have us with you. Annette McMahon The Students' Association of the Geneseo Normal School is the or- ganization of the students for the purpose of promoting the moral, social and intellectual life of the entire student body. Every student of the Normal Department is an active member and has an active part in this truly democratic unit of government. Through this association every student has a right to voice his opin- ions on matters of interest to the student body. It is one of the great aims of this organization to make it an open forum, where every member will feel free to contribute his ideas on the topics being dis- cussed. It is the one great activity which includes all the students and by the cooperation of everyone it is expected that great things will be accomplished by the students themselves. I The year 1923-24 has been excellently started and is confidently ex- pected to be a red letter year in the history of the association. We hope as never before to spread its influence, as a medium of service to the student bodyg and to carry out and maintain the standard and purpose for which it was founded. Mr. Greene Prologue V The prologue is to change the attitude of the audience from one of modern times and feelings to one which will permit the reception of the vision of the first Christmas. The scene is a cozy little room where a mother awaits the coming of her son from his evening's work. As a reporter, he has been assigned the task of mingling with the Christmas Eve crowds and writing up the feature article for his paper on The Real Christmas Spirit. 'Tis nearly midnight when he returns with an abundance of mate- rial ideas but he feels that these are lacking in the great underlying spirit which will show up their real significance. To get that they try to visualize while the mother reads aloud the Christmas Chapters by the candlelight. While they meditate the music of-the mass from the Cathedral is borne to their ears. After being without a coach for several weeks, Mr. Martineau, a St. Bonaventure graduate, offered his services. After a few weeks' work, he was compelled to return to school. Mr. Parish, an engineer at Retsof, a former All-American tackle at Penn. State, came forward to help the boys. Through his untiring efforts, a team was organized that defeated the strong Wayland and Scottsville teams. Considering all the hand- icaps and misfortunes, the team had a comparatively successful sea- son. With practically the same team, 1924 looks promising for Geneseo in football. Ask them to help you find the dictionary. It's an honor to have your name on the fine list. Always sit with your best friends. It is much easier to study, when you can visit between times. Be sure to avoid the bulletin boards and special tables. Don't fail to read the latest number of Life . A sense of humor is necessary. Chairs should not be arranged at tables. The librarians can do that while they are resting. Remember to wait until a crowd assembles around the music table. The more the merrier. It's library etiquette to keep reserved books overtime.
