In late-Autumn, 1972, a monster-size bulldozer came on Delhi campus and sav¬ agely destroyed one of the school landmarks. In a matter of hours, the giant machine was able to crank and groan its way through the building, mercilessly splintering each board and shingle until the structure was finally reduced to a flat mound of rubble. Though its function was minimal towards its end, Ladd Hall was at one time near-half the campus. It originally housed classrooms, offices, a gymnasium and shower- rooms. It was later used for campus services like dupli¬ cating and printing, computer center, art department, photography and audio-visuai; and it housed the Regis¬ trar, Admissions, Counseling and the Business office. The white wooden structure is only a memory now. Its foundation has been hollowed out, and constructed in its place will be a nine-story highrise that will contain the Arts and Science Division and Instructional Resources Center. Kunsela Dear Class of 1973: The entire college community joins me in expressing our congratulations and good wishes as you go about completing your academic life at Delhi. You are a member of our 56th class. At grad¬ uation you will be joining nearly 7000 alumni who have gone before you. We hope that as an alumnus you will look back upon your life on this campus with a sense of pride, loyalty, and satis¬ faction. We also hope that you will return to visit the campus to enjoy its beauty and its personnel. We would like to hear of your achievements and satisfactions because you are our most important product. Before the year is out you will have performed more magic in the production of Gypsy. You will be on deck for the renaming of Stage X, XII and XIII. With a little luck you will occupy the new library. At this writing the wrestling team looks like a winner. By commencement we should see the steel tower rising over the campus as we witness the general studies building take shape. While not as conspicuous, there have been many significant changes taking place of which you may not have been aware. Our students in vocational education performed an outstanding public service when they gutted Ladd Hall. We added a new and promising curriculum called Med¬ ical Laboratory Technology to our offerings in allied health. Our applications have increased from 2000 in 1968 to 6000 in 1973 which seems to indicate that we are doing something right. The de¬ mand for the expertise which you have acquired at Delhi is unprecedented. You have given us rea¬ son to take great pride in our placement record. We have evidence that our great state and the na¬ tion needs, wants and is willing to pay for the skills and competencies you possess. From my point of view we have had a rich and rewarding association. I hope that you share my sentiments. Once again, good luck and best wishes go with you. Sincerely yours, 51 William F. Kunsela 146 ertainly no person has sought to accomplish more for the growth and development of Delhi College than its President, Dr. William R. Kunsela. During his tenure since 1955, the college ' s enrollment has risen from 240 students to more than 2,300, and the campus has expanded from a few wood structures to a modern complex of dormitories, dining hal ls, and service and academic buildings. His leadership has brought Delhi College from relative obscurity to a prominence known through¬ out the world. Dr. Kunsela ' s pride in Delhi College has only been exceeded by his goals for its future. He has often commented, We ' re going to make this the best two-year college in the state and nation. Many feel he has achieved that goal. Though the work and responsibility of a college president are mo¬ mentous, Dr. Kunsela has found time to interact with students and other members of the college community, take part in community affairs and assist colleges in foreign lands with their development. These are only a few reasons that the 1973 Fidelitas is dedicated to President of Delhi College, Dr. William R. Kunsela. 147 Kolu production ' inc and vvalton music corporation present norman luboff choir norman luboff conducting norman luboff choir norman luboff is carrying the banner of good choral music as he tours America! —the Cincinnati inquirer Mode in U S A The artistic range of the Norman Luboff Choir is unparalled in all of vocal music. Where else can one hear a Bach chorale and a Beatle tune sung in the same program with equal artistry and understanding. Every composer speaks to his audience in his own personal way, and if he has genius, he will move the listener whether it is with a soft flowing line or the driving force of a rock beat. Norman Luboff combines all the aspects of good music and chooses his singers accordingly Versatility is a prereq¬ uisite of being a member of this unique chorus. Unpredictability is the essence of their programming. With over 50 LPs, a decade of highly successful concert engagements, and a host of television appearances to their credit. He performed and generously gave all proceeds to the school ' s Scholarship Assistance Fund. I want all the proceeds to go to the needy and rural poor students, said Havens. Richie began his singing as a boy in Bedford-Stuyvesant and then moved on to Greenwich Village. With the re¬ lease of his first album Mixed Bag , he began his road to fame. Jericho, N.Y.-H.R.F.S.M. 175 The purpose of Fidelitas, as in all yearbooks, is to reveal lifes fast pace in caught moments in our book ' s pictures. We hope that the pages you turn in Fidelitas this year, bring you much of what in later life, you may forget. The yearbook is a full-time effort on the part of the staff. We have divided it into the seasons we all encounter here at Delhi, Fall, Winter, and Spring. These we all spend together, each of them having its own character. Keeping this in mind, we have chosen the song by Joni Mitchell— The Circle Game. It ' s words possess our life, it ' s hopes, it ' s dreams, it ' s aspirations for us. Looking back over its long hours of work, we have put into the 1973 yearbook, I would like, personally, to thank Dave Jensen, our advisor, and the staff for their loyalty and faithfulness—that the name Fidelitas implies ... Sincerely yours, Daniel Lennon, Editor in Chief 9 A DIVISION Of HERFF JONES BUFFALO. NEW YORK. 14240 716-834 6600 WM. J. KeLLeR ■nmnni w ■: V r. ,V ' . 7iy- y -V ' ■' ' ■f !
