State University of New York The State University of New York was estab¬ lished by the State Legislature in 1948. It com¬ prises forty-two colleges. Twenty-eight of them are State colleges and fourteen are locally-sponsored community colleges. Although separated geograph¬ ically, all are united in the purpose to improve and extend opportunities for youth to continue educa¬ tion after high school. Although State University of New York is the second largest state university in the country, its students have the additional advant¬ ages of attending relatively small colleges. The State University motto is: Let Each Become All He Is Capable of Being. Lawrence L. Jarvie B.S., M.A., Ph.D. Executive Dean, Institutes and Community Col¬ leges 9 4 ® Marvin A.
