My I . . . . ll l 1955 56 To us there was something magical about the Freshman year The glitter and excitement of the Senior High dances and the challenges of varsity sports were all within our reach We no longer envied the upper classmen we were independent with a spirit and a pride of our own Naturally the Freshman Frolic was to be our social highlight of the year We were determined to prove our class merits and we approached the Frolic preparation with boundless enthusiasm Diana Doern and Bob Bysshe were our able dance chairmen and after much deliberation we decided upon a central theme April in Paris Led by Barbara Hurleys trumpet solo April in Paris our class staged the best frollc yet Everyone now agreed that we were the class to watch Since we couldnt take a trip to Washington we contented ourselves with memories of our ex cursion to Albany in seventh grade Our loud and to the point of deafness We stayed at a hotel and ran the management ragged with our playful an tics Chaperoned by Mr Tuck Mrs Jubert and the Parker Bus Company this is a trip we shall never forget 1956 57 Now we were Sophomores and accepting more school responsibilities than ever before Homeroom rivalries ended when we chose our class officers Bill Pelton as President and Corinne Haviland as Secretary We decided upon Arctic Winter as the theme of our Soph Hop and led by Joanna Raw son and Don Lewis our elected dance chairmen we produced a Sophomore Hop long to be remem bered Bill Peltons welcoming speech to parents highlighted the Sophomore Tea The program was based upon a Valentine theme with hearts and cupids to enliven the event We looked on with pride when Diana Doern Kathy Luhrs Sue Kent and Marlon McCaffrey were chosen as Cheerleaders for the next year Mike Bluestone Joe Pastore Jackie Moen Charlie Greene Roger Sirlm Fill it up Mike there are four experts watching you 6 The entire cast sings the finale to the Prom entertainment our theme song Stars Fell On Alabama' Joanna Rawson Gorm Fnling Louie Marcuante Dori Savage discuss the days happenings in front of the school s mann entrance 51 . . I I I ' . ll ' ' ll I - , , l. , . , , , , 1957 58 We got off to a good start un our Junuor year by electung Lou Marcuante as our Presudent Ron Crusp as Vuce Presudent Mary Lou Verrattu as Sec retary and Joanna Rawson as Treasurer The event most antucupated was the Junuor Prom master munded by Ruth Lurue and Bull Pelton The decoratuons consusted of a large abstract show boat paunted wuth black paunt on dazzlung gold paper and bug fluffy clouds of whute and sulver cloth suspended un a shower of fallung stars Everyone sat on lawn chaurs and the floor was en closed by whute pucket fences adorned wuth hand made red roses The decoratuons were planned and carrued out by Barbara Hurley and her commuttee who worked many long hours makung roses out of crepe paper whuch helped to create a perfect settung for all the gurls un theur elegant gowns and the boys un the handsome tuxedoes The entertaun ment durected by Ann Welden was un the form of a munstrel show wuth sungung dancung and pan tomune Endmen Throckmorton McMahon Hen peck Manoukuan Stonewall Goodman and Jackson Mahrlug told lokes between acts wuth Lou Marcuante our emcee and unterlocutor Dawn Frost and Hank Davenport as Dausy Mae and Luttle Abner respectuvely narrated an Ozark fashuon leopard skun play suuts On Prom Day accordung to tradutuon we proudly flashed our class rungs for the furst tume The members of our class once agaun demonstrated theur leadershup abuluty later un the year by havung two members elected to the two top posutuons un the school s G O Presudent Jum Warren and Vuce Presudent Dave Armstrong The annual unductuon of Junuors unto the Hon or Socuety took place and Ruth Lurue Ann Welden Dave Armstrong and Charlue Greene became new members The Foreugn Exchange program also went unto operatuon when for the furst tume one of our class mates Ruth Lurue under the sponsorshup of the Amerucan Fueld Servuce spent the summer un Germany At the annual Junuor Senuor game much to our dusmay both the gurls and the boys teams lost un spute of vugorous cheerung After the games we all made promuses to each other and to ourselves that we would wun next year Here are he boys un Seventh Grade suttung on the steps of the State Museum un Albany Dottue Krell dudnt muss a thung un the gurls bus on our 0 Louue Marcuante Scott Mulls Jackue Moen The musuc was swell Scott thanks a lot' 1 I I - ' - I .
