Eaton, Kingshury, Lloyd Flaitz, back after serving three years in the Navy, teamed up with Leo Keele and did a remarkable viob in whipping up such a formidable team from the young crew of hopefuls left after graduation toolt a good share of the ltey men who had sparked the undefeated State Champions of 1945. ln the first game of the year against Middlebury, the Redmen coasted in to an easy l3'O victory and the next week invaded Whitehall, New Yorlc, where the two teams fought to a 6'6 tie. Returning home the Flaitzmen rode roughfshod over Montpelier 2O'O and then traveled to Springfield where they bowed 14'l3 in a bitter battle that saw the lead change hands four times, Moving north to Burlington for their fifth game, the Raiders trotted off the held with an 1843 decision and the following week completely out' classed Bellows Falls 26'6 on the home turf, At this point in the campaign, the Rutland club had only one defeat in state circles and with only two more Vermont games left was considered as a top contender for State honors, but Brattleboro spoiled the picture the next week by dumping the Redmen l4'O. Stevens High of Claremont, New Hampshire, hit town for a wet, muddy game that resulted in a 7-6 decision for the invaders, and then it was time for the annual city classic with Mount St. Joseph. The Mounties were loaded with size and experience, but before they won a l2'6 verdict, and the State Championship, the Raiders had forced them to go to the limit bv refusin to . - g slaclx up for an instant. Captain, and outstanding plaver for the team was guard Ted Corsones who was elected Captain of the All'State Eleven. Ably assisting him on the line was end, joe Davine, who also won a berth on All'State.
